Hey Yall -

First time poster on this board (I'm happy I found this lovely site :) ) Here's my first post and by the title you most likely know whats going on ;) Anyway about 6 months ago I bought my first Nissan, a 2013 Pathfinder with about 67k miles on it, this was the first new/used car I have ever purchased and for that reason I decided to purchase an extended "gold" warranty plan. This last week I experienced the dreaded "I cant shift out of park" issue (brake lock solenoid) or (shift lock solenoid) whatever you wanna call it. Since then I've just been using a key to push the override button so I can at least get around. So Friday I bring it to the Nissan dealership to get it looked at (same network of dealerships, but not same dealer I bought it from) They tell me what the issue is and that the entire AT shift assembly needs to be replaced since the assembly and solenoid are attached and the solenoid cant be replaced on its own.......they also said warranty wont cover it and its gonna cost $721 parts and labor.

Now here is my question for people that have dealt with this issue, I've read lots of posts on this site about this issue and how they have escalated it to Nissan direct. Tomorrow I'm going to call the warranty company and state my case, in my warranty info it states under "transmission" they will cover "external transmission solenoids" now wouldnt this be considered just that? It is a solenoid that manipulates the transmission.....even though yes it isnt attached to the trans itself it still manipulates it (shifting out of park into other gears)

My plan is to first state my case to my warranty company, then I'm going to take it to another Nissan dealer closer to where I live. If that dealer wont budge I'm going to tell them I'll escalate it to Nissan. This seems to be a common issue for multiple vehicles dating back to the mid 2000's. The first dealer I brought it to said the warranty place wouldnt cover it and I asked why? and they said "I dont know" thats effed up if you ask me.....I also heard from a person that works at the dealer I bought the car from "they consider this wear and tear"....the car has 69k on it.....I call bogus on that as well......

Sorry for this long rant but any help from you all would be greatly appreciate and any points I can bring up to the warranty company/dealer/Nissan would be great......thanks everyone!!

Contacted both the people that handle my warranty and also Nissan today. The warranty folks wanted nothing to do with my statements or points I brought up. They consider this solenoid a "shifter component" not a "transmission component". Regardless what I said or the points I brought up they would not budge or even hear me out. So then I called Nissan and the lady that I spoke with was amazing. She was extremely friendly and wanted to hear everything I had to say. She said she is escalating my case to a "regional specialist" who will be contacting the dealership I dealt with the other day and they will be contacting me tomorrow. Fingers crossed!!!!

Warranty companies are like Health Insurance companies, they will do anything they can to keep from paying.

Good Luck
