2013 G37X gas gauge

So today gas gauge was just below 1/4. I went to fill it, pump shut off after 7 gallons which didn't seem right if I truly was below 1/4 tank. Tried to continue filling, it overflowed, so definitely full. However, gas gauge reads only half full. Tried running the car awhile, turning it off, starting again, etc. but still only at half. I can't find anything online regarding this problem. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?
