2013 EX37 for sale. What is this aftermarket part on it?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I am looking at a 2013 EX37 with only 12,000 miles on it.

I am a completely stock type of guy. I do not like any aftermarket parts on my cars. Please have a look at the web address of this car listing. The picture of the engine bay is the fourth from the last. What are those two chrome pipes coming out of both sides of the engine? What does it do, could it of harmed anything in the 12,000 miles of its life?

Lastly, what would it cost to get those chrome pipes replaced with the OEM parts at a Infiniti dealership? As if I would get a car like this, that would be the first thing I would do.

just an K&N air filter setup, one on each side. Nothing to worry about, just lets it breath better, for performance and/or gas mileage.

Beautiful car, and completely loaded. The MSRP on that a couple of years ago had to be around 50k so it looks like a really good deal. If I was shopping I would buy it in a heartbeat. What you are seeing is a cold air intake system, probably by K+N if I have my color scheme correct. All it does is allow a larger volume of cooler air into the engine. It doesn't require monkeying around with the tune or anything, and you could drive it for thousands of miles before having to change it out or even change the filters. I have a R2C CAI system on mine, which judging by the dyno results on a G37 adds a bit over a 4% hp boost in the midrange. You would need the OEM air intake system to bring it back to stock. Probably not hard to do and wouldn't take a mechanic more than an hour. Actually, you could probably find someone on this forum who would be willing to swap the stock set up for the CAI. Someone local might even do the install for you as they are getting the better end of the bargain. Only thing is that since most folks have the 3.5 engine, unless you lucked out with someone wanting one for their 3.7, you would have to find out if the 3.5 OEM set up is compatible (it probably is). Most likely that K+N is for a G37 and was slightly modified for the EX as few systems are produced specifically for the EX.

If the aftermarket intakes were only installed there for 12K, I wouldn't really think much about it. What I might worry a bit more about is if the car were driven a bit more aggressively. However, since the car wasn't heavily modified, I would't really worry too much. And I believe that this vehicle still falls under the factory bumper to bumper warranty, so should any issue arise early on it can be addressed by Infiniti.

The intake assembly part numbers are 16500EV11A and 16500EV11B. They retail for about $480 each, but can be found for around $380 each online. So I couldn't picture a car dealer putting almost an extra grand into the vehicle just to return it to stock. Like meanie mentioned, it probably works for the VQ35 and VQ37 engines found on the EX35, EX37, and G37. A trade with someone else does sound like a good idea. If you cannot find another EX owner in your area looking to trade (after all, these aren't high volume sellers), you might have better luck finding a willing G37 owner.

With a price like that on the EX you're looking at, I'd find it hard not to jump on that deal.

Thank you both so much for the informative info on what is installed.

With something like that installed, I too am concerned how rough this person drove their car.

So, are these intake manifolds? Do you know how much the OEM ones go for? Possibly have part numbers for the oem ones? Also, it should only take maybe an hour and a half of labor for Infiniti to do the swap?

I do not live close at all to the dealership, so i would have them bring it to Infiniti to give it a complete checkup and then have them ship it to me. What would be a good offer price?

Also, how deep is this paint color? Is it so deep that it is prone to visible swirl marks and scratches like a black color car?

Beautiful car! I have the same color combo in a 2012 which I've had for a year or so. Paint is much easier to care for than black...this car replaced a jet black BMW which showed EVERYTHING. I did invest in a clear bra but other than that I just keep it washed, clayed, polished and sealed. Good luck!

Too bad you are on the other side of the country, because if you were closer I would love to trade my stock Intake piping for the aftermarket that is on that car (if you had purchased it)

A CAI is just some tubing with different air filters that replace the stock air filter arrangement. As mods go it is pretty mild and doesn't necessarily translate into rough treatment of the car. In my case it really doesn't make me go any faster as it doesn't reduce the risk of either having someone suddenly pullout/walk in front of me or of getting a ticket. I like the way it sounds, the better throttle response when I am accelerating, and for the R2C, that the filters are supposedly good for the life of the car (with some periodic cleaning). That car has almost 50k miles left on the regular warranty and another 10k on top of that for the power train. I don't think you have to worry about it being beaten on. These cars are very well made and it would be really hard to approach their limits on the street, never mind do something harmful. That one looks well cared for, and probably was, plus it only has 12k miles. You also do not need to rush into changing out the CAI. It won't hurt the car, and in fact might improve the gas mileage. You could take your time and find someone to swap units with, which on the West Coast shouldn't be hard.

I actually live in Cleveland Ohio. I would have it shipped.

If anyone lives close to this car, i would love for you to check it out and let me know the true condition in person. I am concerned about curb rash on wheels, dents, scratches, etc.

Also, does anyone know the proper Infiniti name for this part that I would need to put it back to oem? I am trying to locate the part on here:

But I really am not sure what I am looking for

I believe they're called "Air Cleaner Assemblies". OEM Infiniti part numbers are 16500EV11A for the right side and 16500EV11B for the left.

The intake manifold is a different assembly that usually sits right about on top of the engine; I don't think that's what you're looking for.

"Bingle" I see you also own an IS300. Can you kindly compare the Lexus IS300 to the Infiniti EX37 and your case the EX35? Which one handles better (in stock form), which one is smoother on roads, and please tell me the Infiniti doesnt get worse gas millage than the IS300, can you compare your average MPG for both?

"NJGUY" Thank you, those part numbers were exactly what I was looking for.

I have a 2004 IS300 SportCross. The EX is a smoother riding car and gets better gas mileage - especially on the highway....probably about 4-5 miles more per gallon. IS300 handles better - it's smaller and lower so it should be a bit more nimble. Both cars are essentially stock.

My EX still has the OEM Bridgestone EL42's while I just put new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3's on the Lexus. I'd bet I'd see better handling if I did the same to the EX....not a fan of the Bridgestones but they are wearing like iron.
