Can someone tell me what the minimum octane requirement is for the new 2013 altima is? Specifically the 3.5 motor. Thanks.

Welcome to NICO! If you own one, it is generally in the owners manual in the recommended fluids in the maintenance section.

Thanks for the welcome! No I don't currently own one, but seriously considering one. Went for a test drive with the wife and really enjoyed the way it drove (the 3.5) and how quiet the interior was, but one of the questions I forgot to ask was about the minimum octane required. Probably won't make or break the decision, just mostly curious.

in reference to the 3.5L....the manual for the 2008's said 91 minimum, but I think they changed the 2010-2012 manual to regular 87. Try out both and see which one the car runs better on.

If the factory says regular, you must stick to that. With different octane grade timing will change

Warren, your answer is not quite correct. The timing will not "change" if you use 89 or 91/93 octane in a car designed for 87 octane, as the '13 Altimas are.

However, if you have a Altima V6 that requires at least 91 octane, and you use 89 or 87 octane in it, once the engines spark knock sensors detect spark knock, the timing will automatically be retarded enough to prevent knock, and you will/might notice a decrease in performance.

Throck is correct here.

Just stick to the regular unleaded. There really no measurable value in using high test fuel in the 3.5 coupe. The fact that the 3.5 uses regular unleaded and still makes 270 bhp makes it an excellent engine.
