I have a general question related to my clutch reservoir.

The clutch reservoir is a combo with my brake reservoir on my car. My question is, can I install a separate reservoir just for the clutch and cap off the feed port from the brake reservoir? This way they are not sharing what I consider a single point failure.

I have a small clutch fluid leak and I can run Bar’s Leak in the brake system. So to try and stop the leak before I have to remove the transmission I would like to try the leak stop.

Bad idea.

Magic voodoo juice doesn't stop leaks. If it did, no one would repair anything. Brake fluid is especially proficient in finding its way out - and splitting the two systems (with stop-leak in the brake system) isn't going to fix your clutch leak.

Find the clutch leak and address it. Do you know where it's leaking from?

Im not putting stop leak in the brake system it will be the clutch line. The system is leaking at the slave /throw-out bearing. It is a very small leak, few drops a day. I just want to see if I can stop it so I don't have to do a tranny drop to replace it. The clutch function is fine so im just assuming it is a seal leak at the expansion boot.

I'm going to assume a typo in the following: "I can run Bar’s Leak in the brake system." Although, if you can use it in the clutch system, I see no reason it can't be used in the brake system (especially if they share a circuit).

I follow your logic, and I've pulled apart the crappy manual slave cylinder / throwout bearing assembly (2008 Cube) before. I recall plastic lines, one-time-use fittings, and Chinese garbage everywhere. I suspect a repair is in your future.

Give it a shot, and please keep us posted on the results. One suggestion: See if you can use BlueDevil instead of Bar's (research the two). Good luck!

I guess the most important part of my post is, can I separate the supply line from the brake reservoir and put in a clutch only supply? Is the clutch fluid supply a gravity feed? the system only has a standard rubber hose going from the brake reservoir to the clutch petal, it doesn't have any retainer clips or screw fittings so I would assume it is not a pressurized system.

Side note: the manufacture of Bar's Leak warns against using in the brake system, said it would damage the system. This is the reason im looking at separating also the fact tat the design is a single point failure and if a brake line bust or clutch line bust I loose all systems (Brakes and Clutch).

Gonna get a couple more opinions in here from people who know hydraulic systems a little better than I.

If it's not OK in the brake system, you have to question why? Would it not also have the same effect in a clutch system?

As an aside, a separate reservoir should be fine, as long as there's room.

Yes, there should be room. I found a location on the driver side strut tower that I can bolt a secondary reservoir to that is located above the clutch pedal assy.

I was told it would damage ABS system. Plus I also figure that they don’t want the liability if something goes wrong and someone wrecks due to loss of brakes. Probably just a cover their but thing, Bluedevil says the same thing about not using in brake system.
