Hey guys. As of last week, I'm the new(ish) owner of a 2012 Se-R Spec V. I got a good deal on it and I've had to work a few kinks out with it. One thing I have noticed in the cabin is when I start it up cold, the engine seems to knock at around 1100 rpm, or at least I think that's what I'm hearing. It's an interesting thump. I can't tell when I listen from the engine bay (I guess maybe my ears aren't save enough to listen for those ticks yet) but it's noticeable in the cabin. Is this a normal occurrence? When it settles down after warming up, I can't really hear it. It's only when it's first started for the day around that 1100 rpm mark before it goes down to 800. It might just be me listening for nothing and being paranoid.

I posted a video of to YouTube and if you guys could listen, I'd appreciate it. It happens around the 45 second mark in the video. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Welcome aboard!

I can't quite tell which part you're referring to when I'm watching the video. Was the sound right around 1:05 on the video? I might have mistaken it for the camera possibly hitting the steering wheel.

Hopefully it's nothing, but I couldn't pick it out.

Thanks for the welcome!

Yeah I can't figure it out man. It's specifically at 1100 rpm and I really don't hear it that bad after that. It doesn't particularly get louder when driving and I can't pick it out over over ticks in the engine bay. I can only.....hear it in the cabin. It's weird. It honestly sounds like a piston slap or something, but I'm told knocking gets worse as you drive, and I don't hear much of anything. Somebody suggested it could just be the exhaust warming up, which it very well could be, but I just find it strange that's it's most dominant at a certain rpm. Like I said, though; this car and I are new friends. I might be looking for things that aren't real. This car only has 22k on it, but I don't know how the previous owner treated it. So naturally, I worry.

A lot of the other b16 Sentra guys have had bearing issues in their 2.0l with the knocking (so I've read) so I worry. A lot of people have said that the 2.5 is built a lot nicer though. I just wouldn't like to see little problems turn in to huge issues after my warranty is up, you know?

I started looking for Si's for awhile, but I'm still happy with my purchase. I dig this car, and hope to start making it faster once I work all the other stuff out of it.

I don't know what happened when the audio started to cut out. I didn't hit the steering wheel so idk how that happened haha. Almost exactly around 45 seconds in when I start hearing it.
