I think you meant USB thumb drive, in which case the answer is yes. Here's what the manual says "This system supports various USB memory sticks, USB hard drives and iPod® players. There are some USB devices which may not be supported with this system"ras_oscar wrote:I would like to purchase a USB hard drive to use in place of an Ipod to play my music library. Will work?
Where did you find this bit? I missed it in my perusal through the manual.Rogue One wrote:"USB: Folder levels: 8, Folders 255, Files: 2500 (Max. 255 files for one folder) Memory size: 4GB"
I did a quick search through my pdf version. 2011 Owners manual section 4-27 (pg. 185).ras_oscar wrote:Where did you find this bit? I missed it in my perusal through the manual.Rogue One wrote:"USB: Folder levels: 8, Folders 255, Files: 2500 (Max. 255 files for one folder) Memory size: 4GB"
500GB? Harddrive right? Was it partitioned? Won't work if it was. I just ordered a 64GB jump drive from TigerDirect.com for $25. I'll let you know the results. BTW, is your system the BOSE premium?ras_oscar wrote:Update: Completed the test as I described. Filled the entire memory card with music. It worked fine. Granted, the Ipod has a smoother inhterface, but clearly the limits have been upped. Does anyone know what the max size is for a USB thumb drive? 16GB? 32GB? To be clear, I'm driving the 2012 Rogue with single Cd player, satnav and a USB port. 8GB works, 500 GB does not.
Yeah, I wouldn't give up on the hard drive option yet. Try getting a power adapter for the drive so you can power it from the cigarette lighter plug. Or just bite the bullet and go with the iPod, I've been using the same oldish 120 or 160 gig iPod for a few years now, through a couple of different cars. You could get a used one and who cares about battery life since it'll be USB powered.takeshi wrote:One problem with the hard drive was probably lack of/insufficient power from the USB port. Did the hard drive have its own power supply?
Bingo! Just tried a 64GB USB flash drive that came formatted NTFS. Head unit threw up an error message saying the file system wasn't supported.stratocaster wrote:Could it be how the Hard Drive was Formatted? Most USB Drives are formatted using FAT32 system whereas Hard Drives NTFS (To accomodate larger file sizes) It could be that the radio in the rogues do not recognize NTFS?
Worth a try to reformat your Hard Drive using FAT32.
