Problem: Car suddenly won't accelerate...it takes 10 seconds to get to 20mph and won't let you go above 55. The radio does not switch to reverse camera... and the PRNDL readout shows that the car thinks it is in Park and Neutral at the same time regardless of what gear your in. (P and N are both highlighted.

This is the 2nd time i've had this exact problem (1st @ 18k miles) and now at just shy of 35.5k (Whew under warranty) ... The 1st time it occurred they kept the car for over a week and had to replace computers/fuses and shift mechanism ... (Heavy work)... and now whatever is defective is back.... I bought the car brand new and i have meticulously maintained it with the dealer as i bought the MPP and am religious about maintenance.

What do i do to make sure that even if the dealer fixes it again that i'm not right back in 18k and then it is on my bill? This is clearly something major.

Help

Tim Wiley

WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!! :) :welcome:

unfortunately i think you have another shifter issue. (this also smells of an ongoing electrical issue)

question:
  • have you had any other issues with this car, electrical wise? please list all repairs. (3 of the same issues = lemon law.)
what is this MPP you bought?

Thanks for the info. The only other issue is the XM going out... meaning mostly snow reception on XM which i have put off on taking in to get fixed but that will be on this visit. Outside of that i haven't had a single problem.

The MPP i believe is silver. I will post an update shortly if that is not the case. I am actually taking it in this morning. I use the same service tech each time and he is going to get me in direct contact with Nissan Consumer affairs... but we will see where that leads if anywhere.

I think it's something you can add on when financing...there are various plans; silver, gold, platinum. If you buy these plans, it covers your regular maintenance costs for a certain time/mileage depending on which plan. IIRC the platinum would cover all scheduled maintenance up through 60,000. If you use the dealer for all your service, it would definitely save you some money. It wouldn't have saved me any $$$ as I use an independent shop because the dealer in my town is horrible for sales and, especially, service (I had to open a ticket with Nissan Consumer Affairs on my Murano...when I told them I didn't use my local dealer for service and gave her the name she chuckled. When I asked her why she laughed, she replied, "Oh, we are very familiar with them.")

Update 6/4/2013 - Just so others have this info.... i launched a Consumer Affairs inquiry and they got some people from Nissan engineering over to the dealer. As of now they are stating that it is related to a April 2012 TSB regarding the Transmission Control Module (TCM)

TSB Number: NTB12-035

So they are working to replace that.... here is a link with some info on the TSB

I will post an update after the repair is completed and how things go over time.

Update 7/9/2013 - Nissan sent engineers to dealer after i launched a consumer affairs complaint. They did an exhaustive investigation(30+ days) and finally found a defect somewhere in the engine wiring harness... They reimbursed the dealer $5,500 in repair assitance/labor costs.
