I have a 2012 rogue with 165K miles on it. I have replaced the CVT (125K), the passenger drive axle(155k), And the driver side CV boot (145K)

Recently I have noticed a squeak from the front end. It sounds like a dog chew toy and goes away after a couple miles, only to return next startup. Particulars below:

1. Only occurs when moving
2. Only occurs in first couple miles of driving from "cold"
3. Only occurs when accelerating( not when coasting or breaking)
4, Does not occur after arm if I stop briefly like to get a snack at a convenience store.
5. Squeak is "rhythmic in nature and increases in pace with increase in moving speed.

More than anything, it's bugging the snot out of me, because I cannot think of anything that could cause that set of symptoms.

I'm no expert, but it seems like the acceleration only characteristic is key, combined with the increase in pace with increased speed. This tells me there's some part that helps transfer power to the wheels that's affected, maybe the transmission itself or the differential. I would inspect for any small fluid leaks in the wheel well and under the vehicle around the struts, rods, joints, etc. and see if you notice anything unusual. These parts may leak small quantities of oil when they begin to go bad.

One of the pulleys in your serpentine belt path could be the cause. Once it warms up it quiets down.

To test get a can of wd 40 with the spray straw, and start your car cold. Hopefully the noise will be present. Hit the back of the various pulleys with a tiny bit of spray. Does the sound change or go away? Be careful when working around a moving belt you do not want your hand sucked into the belt and you dont want that straw thrown into your eye.

Can be belt too loose due to dead tensioner too. Or a bearing somewhere in belt run. Cold bearings often make noise until warmer.

Only makes noise when moving. Wouldn't a serpentine belt make noise any time the engine was running?

Anyone have experience replacing Rogue front wheel bearings? What mileage and what were the symptoms? The only experience I have was on my 2005 Altima and that made a raucous howl.

When belts and pulleys warm up sometimes the noise goes away. Of course eventually you get the noise all the time.

I had to replace mine at about 35k. If you live in the salt belt plan on changing out the wheel sensors also, because of a stupid Nissan design flaw. You have to remove the sensor to get the wheel bearing assembly off and back on. Up north here wheel sensors are only removed with a drill, hammer, punch and a file.

Get a good quality wheel bearing like Timken or Moog do not buy the cheap C.R.A.P. or you’ll be doing it again in 5k miles or so.
A bad wheel bearing usually presents itself at first with a drone that goes away if you turn the steering wheel to the left or right. As it gets worse, it gets louder and the drone doesn’t go away. If you neglect it and it gets really bad the wheel will eventually fall off.

ok, that's nothing like what I am hearing. This sounds like rubber on steel. Perhaps if I pull out the floor jack and try wobbling the suspension parts.

or perhaps it has something to do with that dog collar that I found stuck in the wheel well :)

Less to do with the collar and more with what it was attached to. :rotfl That's the funniest thing I've read all day.

Yeah you probably should look there might be some other debris if youv'e already found one piece.

SOLVED IT!!!!!

Since I have received a lot of good karmna here on the forum, I thought I'd post my solve and refill the tank a bit. First the rest of the story:

I thought perhaps if I turned the 4wd on something would change. BOY did it ever!!! Sounded line elves were hammering the bottom of the rear axle. Turned 4wd off immediately. The hammering continued, but only when I started off from a full stop, or when cornering at low speed (when the 4wd turns itself on) turned out the front u joint was seized. Replaced the drive shaft and shift cable. The initial chirping was because the drive shaft end cap was turning within the drive shaft tube.

Glad you found it. Was this something that you were able to do yourself or you had a dealer or other professional take care of?

I appreciate people that can slide under the car with a wrench, but that stopped being fun for me a couple decades ago. I went to a local mechanic with whom I have a relationship. Drove it in carefully and described the problem. The mechanic took it out for a test drive and broke the u joint entirely. Had to have it towed back to the shop. it took 2 days to get the OE parts in hand and repair.
