Rogue SV 2012

Airbag light flashing.

After the on-off trick 3 times .... light flashes one long and 2 short.

OBD gives B-1054

Where to start? Horn working.

Thanks!

That's almost certainly the spiral cable. The steering wheel functions always quit one by one when they die, they never just snap and everything in the wheel quits. That only happens if you install a new one incorrectly off-center.

If you want to confirm the diagnosis, pop the bag off the steering wheel and disconnect it, then put a 2 ohm resistor across each of the bag connectors. If the DTC goes "past" then the problem is the bag, if it doesn't then the problem is the spiral. However, I should tell you that in my long career I've only once seen a bad bag. I've seen hundreds of bad spirals. Identifix shows 86 confirmed fixes for B1054, and 84 of them were the spiral cable.

thanks for your help!

what you mean by : If the DTC goes "PAST" then the problem is the bag,
and resistors on 2 connectors ..yellow and other one ?

will give a try when less cold outside

DTC's are always either "current", meaning the error condition still exists, or "past" meaning the error has cleared. There will be two connectors on the driver airbag, one yellow and one orange. Placing a 2 ohm resistor across the contacts of each connector simulates a healthy airbag and should make the DTC go "past" if the problem is in the bag. However, it's up to you whether it's worth the bother, since there's a 97.5% chance the problem is in the spiral cable and not the airbag.

They're torx screws, not hex. I think T30 security types, but maybe someone else here knows the size for certain.

You're most welcome. That clinches it, bad spiral cable.

What size were those torx screws? It may help other folks who read this.

There's a very, very small chance it's the wiring between the ACU and the spiral cable, but since you have the bag out, you can easily eliminate that by ohming through the spiral cable. Study this post carefully before messing with it:

topic628964.html

On the yellow connector into the spiral, YEL is one airbag, YEL/GRN is the other airbag, and YEL/RED is common to both airbags. The yellow connector into the spiral plus both bag connectors must be disconnected before ohming. You're ohming the spiral assembly and airbag wires on the wheel side, not the bag or the ACU wiring. Put your 2 ohm resistors back into the bag connectors and then ohm the spiral from the YEL/RED position to the YEL position and to the YEL/GRN position. Both must read no more than 2.5 ohms, infinity or a higher reading means the spiral is open or has high resistance.

Thanks VStar650CL
I will never tell you 'thank you' enough
changed the spiral cable yesterday and after the 3 times on/off...no more airbag light.
Thanks again!
