2012 RAV4 V6 to 2016 QX50 , maybe

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

2012 RAV4 V6 to 2016 QX50 , maybe .
Have not driven a QX50 yet , drove a couple of QX70's and just do not need the extra size , plus , looks a little off for my taste .

I am hoping the QX50 is more like the Q50 I have been reading about .

Dealer in peoria Az say they will be getting one in , in a week or so

My Rav4 V6 is pretty special , the engine that is , it's athletic , 0-40 is really fun

I came from 2008 Rav4 V6 Sports to a 2008 EX35 Journey. The Rav4 has more lowend power due the light weight, but EX is great past 60MPH and up. Top end of EX and the transmission wins.

Why did you change vehicles ? ?

The net shows the qx50 doing 0 to 60 in 5.9 and the RAV4 in 6.3

Yours is a 2008 and maybe a bit slower by .4 sec ?

My EX35 Uprev'ed Etuned ran 6.12 secs 0-60 MPH using Cipher performance logging which is accurate.
No tune it ran 6.4-6.5 0-60MPH

Rav4 V6 magazine 0-60 @ 6.2 secs.

I am not sure which is quicker 0-60 between 08 EX35 awd vs the QX50. The 2008 can hit 60MPH in 2nd gear if you rev a bit higher. The Qx50 might need 3rd gear to hit 60 due to closer gear ratio.

I was paying 6.7% interest on the Rav4 vs the 2008 EX35 offer of 0%. It's a no brainer back then when nobody wants the EX35. Up to 8k incentive on the EX. I traded in my 6 months old Rav4 that time which compensate for the trade in loss...

EX35 to EX37 to QX50.

3.5 L (VQ35HR engine) with 5 speed AT then went to VQ35HR engine with 7speed AT . I think 2013 when they put a new engine from the G37 (VQ37VHR) with the previous 7 speed (close ratio) transmission.

So far nothing changed on the exterior, just the way they setup optional packages.

Honestly, I think Infiniti made the best choice of making the EX37/QX50 with the combination of 3.7 Liter (VQ37HR engine) and a close gearing transmission to hit the blance of power and comfort.

I have a Q40 which is a G37x sedan and basically the same engine and probably transmission of the QX50.
I love how the Q40 drives compare to my 3.5L EX35.
The EX35 5 speed transmission is bullet proof, but the gearing ratio is not designed for performance, but comfort and smoothness....

I test drove a RAV4 V6 before getting my 2011 EX. I was coming from a G37 so looking for as comparable a level of performance as I could get in a small SUV. I was really hopeful that I would like the RAV considering the price differential, but while it was quick I didn't care for the ride nor the handling, and of course the interior appointments were a far cry from the plush EX. I also tried the Sportage turbo, Outback V6, Acura RDX, etc., and none really matched the combination of power, handling and luxury that the EX offered. The price I was able to get on a loaded left over EX was only a few grand higher than these other cars. That being said, the EX 35 was neither as fast nor as dynamic as the G. Now that the 3.7 engine with about 10% more hp is in the EX I expect the speed of the Q40 (G37) and Q50X (EX 37) are probably much more comparable. I am not sure you can expect to match the 0-60 times posted in magazines as those reflect professional drivers and measuring equipment. The AWD EX 35 routinely comes in at about 6.1 in articles, and 2WD is faster, I think about 5.7. The times I have seen posted for the EX 37 AWD/2WD are mid to low 5s, which fits with the Gs. Almost 4 years and 73k miles later I find myself loving the EX as much as I did the G, and more than I did when I first bought it. I am doubtful that would be the case with those other rides.

Regarding G37x sedan vs 2008 EX35 AWD 5 speed AT,
I raced one from a dig and I was ahead of him on 1st and 2nd gear(his front bumper is lined up at middle of my front door, then what ever happened, he jumped a car ahead afterwards. LOL!
I think I was on the 3rd gear and everyone knows the 3rd gear on the 5 speed AT is very long... (BTW, I was on Manual mode)
I would say that was a 0-60 run. I think my 0-60 (no brake torque) is 6.4 secs stock. With brake torque and tuned I managed a 6.12 secs.

Nothing has changed on the exterior? _ The entire car has been re proportioned from beautiful to long and slender. Don't use their ads and TV commercials to judge, they are still using views from last years model. You can't simply add 5 inches to the length without changing the looks, no more than you could add 5 inches to the height of a bathing beauty without changing her appearance.

Oh , come on , now , they added 3.2 inches to the wheel base , not 5".
I have seen them side by side and I can not tell the difference

The actual length of the car went from 182.3 to 186.8 inches, for 4.5 inch growth overall, which would be rounded up (remember 7th grade math?) to 5 inches. Manufacturers often add additional length outside of the wheelbase. For the EX/QX50 the longer wheelbase may make for a slightly smoother ride, but slightly larger turning circle and perhaps reduced nimbleness. Hopefully it also increases the length between the roof crossbars as well. Now they need to add a towing package to bring some of the "utility" back to the equation. After I went from a G37 sedan to the EX I realized they had cut 5 inches off the length and thought "I want that 5 inches back!" This should have been done years ago to keep current with the other lux CUVs, and probably isn't enough to resurrect what is largely a forgotten car since reviewers often overlook to mention it as competition for the X3, GLK, RDX, etc. I have to milk a few more years (and considerably more miles) out of mine before trading up, but would consider another.
