2012 Nissan Rogue Tires Recall 12V068000

NHTSA: Action Number: N/A Service Bulletin Number: 12V068000

Report Date: Feb 22, 2012
Component: Tires
Potential Units Affected: 2983
Manufacturer: Nissan North America, Inc.

Summary: Nissan is recalling certain model year 2012 murano and rogue vehicles, manufactured from november 23, 2011 through january 11, 2012. During assembly, the tire pressure monitoring system (tpms) was not activated. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 138, 'tire pressure monitoring system.'

Consequence: A non-active tpms cannot warn a driver that a tire is underinflated. Underinflated tires can result in tire overloading and overheating, which could lead to a blowout and possible crash.

Remedy: All of the affected vehicles are still in dealer inventory. Dealers have been instructed to activate all of the tire pressure monitoring systems.

Notes: Customers may contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty: 1-800-424-9153); or go to http://www. Safercar. Gov.

good post & find Rogue One!

My thoughts:
these f-ing tpms sensors are a total scam, and a pain in my rear end. i hate them. the system is full of flaws and constant false alarms. the tpms sensors are extremely sensitive to tire beading machines and outside radio frequencies. i got a hold of about 2,000 tpms sensors for Hyundai and kia cars. all for 2008-2011. you cant believe the amount of orders i got in 6months. everyone was saying that either their year or two old sensors died, or the neck snapped upon install of the tire onto the rim.
i myself, get constant flashes on the dash in my rogue that are false alarms.

this national law that all cars are to include tpms sensors, was nothing more than a knee-jerk reaction by some over-protective politicians right after the ford exploror & firestone tires issue. The "Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation Act"(TREAD Act) didnt focus on making more stringent tire regulations, it focused on warning drivers of under-inflated tires = thus still leaving the main problem intact. Now drivers are so used to false alarms and broken sensors that they simply dont even pay attention to the TPMS lights and continue to drive = thus exposing themselves to the crashes that congress tried to avoid via the TREAD Act.

what we need is less electronic intervention, and more driver/car-owner education. People are increasingly becoming more and more reliant upon sensors(which frequently go bad/give false readings) and more oblivious to the simple task of preventative maintenance.

Mine were a royal pain in the backside until I got a decent tire gauge and replaced the cheesy nylon caps with metal ones.

I was looking for nissan rogue valve caps like the ones in the pic and I was wondering why some come with a wrench? Are they that hard to come off. Also I read something online that they are not recommended with tpms valves and that they can seize on in the winter or by road salt. Anyone have these issues?

The wrench is for the anti-theft set screws that screw into the side of the caps.

Tire valve caps are the final seal against potential failure in the valve of the valve stem. A good tire valve cap will come with high quality rubber seal that will push against the circumferential 'ring' of the valve stem and thereby help to contain the air should the valve fail or not contain the air very well.

The valve caps also are used to keep dirt/debris out of the valve stem. Could they seize? Sure, but it's not that big of a deal.

OKay I saw some caps with the wrench on ebay for $4.00 made in China. Would these be any good? Also I thought if someone really wanted to steal the caps couldn't they just use a wrench and unscrew them?

Yep, they'll be fine. Got mine off eBay from a seller in China. Only got them there because they said NISSAN on them, otherwise you could get an inexpensive generic set from Wal-Mart, or any automove supply store.

For $4. Your kidding, right? Wasn't aware there was a thriving black market for stolen valve stem caps. :rotfl
