My wife drives a 2012 Quest with around 53000 km. She puts around 10000 km per year in mostly city driving. I am concerned about the CVT transmission eventually crapping out. And for some reason, the 2012 model year seems to have way more reported issues of blown CVT transmissions compared to the other model years (why is that??). I'm wondering if I should sell it when the mileage gets close to around 100000 km (which would be in around 5 years) just to avoid the risk of the CVT blowing out, or take a chance and keep it until it dies? So far the car has had only a couple of issues- the A/C first leaking coolant, and then eventually the compressor needing a replacement, and also an issue with one the rear brake drums shuddering and needing replacement.

You have guessed at the time to get rid of car as the same time many of them (transmissions) go bad. Other than that the transmissions wildly vary in when they go bad, you are asking for an impossible to guess at opinion there.
