Hi All,

I have a 2012 Nissan Maxima and had purchased a K&N air filter for it. I recently heard that with K&N air filters when you spray the oil spray that comes with it after using the cleaner - the oil may get onto the air sensor and cause it to code. Has anyone ran into this issue and are you currently using K&N?

It can definitely happen. The filters only need a very tiny bit of oil to catch and hold onto particulates. Often times people use too much oil. Excess oil definitely comes off and fouls the Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF). This causes the ECU to get false readings and screws up AFR.

Paper filters are cheap, standard from the factory, and filter smaller particles. I always recommend using quality paper filters such as Nissan OEM, Wix, Purolator, etc.
