Did the models after 2010 have the same issues with the prior year models with the CVT? I just picked up a 2012 Maxima SV and after about a 6 hour trip yesterday, my Maxima would not budge after stopping. The first time it slipped back into gear after creeping along a few feet and the second time it basically stranded me for about 20 mins and then crawled the last 1/4 mile home.

Am I looking at a burnt up CVT? Over/under filled CVT that overheated and caused fluid to foam up? I figured after sitting overnight that if it was overheated that today would be ok, but after short 10mins ride on freeway this morning, it started to act up again.

I am thinking of taking to authorized Nissan mechanic to have fluid drained and replaced to check for debris, but if anyone could shed some light before I take that step that tells me more, then I will just take back to dealer and demand repair or money back.

How many miles does the car have? What was the outside temperature when the car experienced this problem? You may need to have some of the CVT fluid replaced, as the current fluid may have degraded to the point where it's causing the CVT to go into safe/limp mode. Typically, when a CVT fails the car will make audible whining/grinding noises, and/or will physically shudder, and experience complete acceleration failure. Take your car to a Nissan dealership ASAP for the next steps.
