Hello,
I am a new member and would like to get some information. I have always owned Infiniti vehicles. I have owned a M35X, QX4, and now we own a 2012 QX56. We have always loved our cars, but now I need to upgrade the M35X. I have read reviews of the 2012 M56X and have seen one that I would like to buy, but would like to hear from the forum if it's indeed a reliable and good car. It's got the Tech pkg which I want, but it has 90k miles. Is that a problem? I don't think it is plus it was owned by one person. Should I invest in it or look into a Q70?

I bought the exact same model in October 2015. 2012 M56x with the tech package. At the time, it had 52k miles on it, and was still under warranty. I do not have an extended warranty. I have about 74k on it now. I don't think the mileage should be an issue, but I would verify that the proper service has been done by the previous owner. It's been very reliable for me; I had the battery die on me but that was a typical maintenance item. There is a timing chain recall on the M56's so I would let the dealer run your VIN to make sure that this is done. I've added a custom exhaust and intake hoses, and had it performance tuned. The Q70 has the same powertrain but newer features like the 360 view cameras, infotainment screens, body enhancements etc. Just depends on how much extra you want to pay. Welcome to the forum!

Thanks, ArmyBrat! Really appreciated. I really love Infiniti cars and they've been reliable so far for me. The M56X just has all the bells and whistles that I want. I just hope to hear from others who have this model.

if you are looking for reliability i think the 6 cylinder or m37 would cost less to drive . if you like V8* then you know what you gotta do

Thanks, Mazz. I have driven 6 cylinder cars for some time now and was interested in the V8 M56X. Not only does it look good, as an Infiniti product, I feel it should be just reliable as the others I have driven. That's why I'm trying to hear from other owners on the forum of their experiences.

Biggest issue seems to be cat failures at around 100K and that is not cheap.

Stop scaring me with that lol. I'm dreading this happening...it's insane that you can't replace the cats without doing all of that work. This car is designed SPECIFICALLY to be taken to a shop for every damn little thing.

I'm typically a person that trades cars every couple of years. My 2011 M56x now has 50k miles and I can't really talk myself into buying something different. It's been reliable, it's fast, it's a dream for long cruises, etc.

If I was going to trade it in I would be looking for another luxury car. Probably something around a 2015 and I still see nothing that matches the M56. I refuse to buy something that is going to be a money pit so that wipes out most European makes. Possibly a Lexus GS but then what am I gaining? Maybe a Cadillac but I still question their long term interior quality.

Thanks, dmclone! I have been having the same feeling - I just can't see myself driving anything else. It's good to hear that I'm making the right choice. I've just never driven anything like the M56X! So apart from typical maintenance on car, I believe it should be a good purchase, right?

If you have apprehension I would say buy a extended warranty that will cover the major mechanicals of the car. I have had a 2013 m37xS since new and have zero issues with it. The car is the perfect family cruiser when I needed to replace it (lease is comint up) I could not find anything else that interested me so I purchased a 2011 m56s. The v8 gives the car so much more personality and makes it a blast to drive aggressively.

As far as reliability on the 56 so far so good. Plus the car came with a full warranty until 150k miles that covers almost all components of the car.

I also have a 09 FX50 that has 110k miles on it and has also been very reliable.

I would not hesitate on picking up a 2012, just try to find one with a good service history if you can.
