Does anyone know how to shorten the time it takes to make a phone call in this car? Coming from a Maxima where you just push a button and say "call (name)" to this car where you have to go through 3 or 4 menus before you can say "dial" just seems like we've taken several steps backwards on the 'convenience' trail...

Any ideas are welcomed... can't find anything on a google search of the topic...

Have you tried using "Call <name>"?

It works fine in my M37x.

I guess I'm missing something... what button or which screen allows a simple "call (name) " command?

Having not been in an m37, I have to rely on the internet to show me which buttons are on the wheel. Do you have these buttons?

On the left side, it looks like the middle of the lower 3 buttons on the left should do the trick. If not, call your salesperson... they should have trained you on how to use the features (but they usually don't).

Got my 2012 M37S on Monday. Phone commands were a little more cumbersome than the previous rev in my G37S. Fastest way I've found to dial phone...go into Settings, Voice recognition, turn on alternate commands.

Then when you hit the voice button, you can say "Dial Number"....it will ask you what number you want to dial. If you want to skip some of the long winded feedback you're getting from the Voice recognition system, hit the voice button on your steering wheel again and it will skip right to the part where you provide voice input.

Clearly I am missing something. The Voice Commands on my 2006 FX45 were simple, Press Voice Button, then ==> Call, Name, Location. All one step, done. And it worked every time. The Voice Commands on my 2011 M37X (bought used a couple months ago) are cumbersome at best. I've read everything, setup the VoiceTags, turned on Alternate Commands, but have yet to successfully make a call using the voice system. Google was not much help. Is there some kind of super secret password needed to make this system function properly? Or perhaps a s/w update needed? Please help!

when you saved the number in your phonebook, did you save a voice tag for it ? I have no problem in my 07. I would hope the technology would have gotten better for the 37s

Yes, saved the voice tag. Like I said, my 2006 FX45 worked like a charm. One would think that 5 years later, the technology would have gotten better, not regressed. Took it to a dealership and they believed it was working correctly - that you must go through all the menu steps to make a call.

GaryREM, can you let me know how you got "Call <name>" to work on your M37x? I would be VERY GRATEFUL!

I too find the system a tad frustrating. I trained the vehicle to my voice, added a few numbers to the vehicle phonebook, and added voice tags to those numbers. I hit the voice recognition button, say "call John Smith", and it gives me a few choices of contacts (pulls from lists in both my phone and the car's phonebook), and asks me to pick a number. ie: typically 1 through 4.

I cannot understand why it will not just call the person associated with the voice tag, without the extra step of "picking a number". IIRC, my 2006 M45 would do it without picking from a list.

Also frustrating is the fact that if you pick the phone's phonebook, it lists names by last name first. It is not set up that way in my phone's contacts; it is set up by first name first.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note II, just for reference.
