Well I have to say I'm a tad disappointed. I have an '08 ex which now has 86k miles on it and it's time for me to start looking for a new vehicle. I love my EX, but the 2012 will be its 5th model year, and I just don't see any major enough changes to it to justify me buying another one.
So far as I can tell, since 2008, the only significant changes have been:
- 7 speed transmission
- new colour lights for dashboard gauges
- twiddly knob for heated seats instead of switch
- updated nav/touchscreen unit
- intelligent cruise control now works down to 0mph.
Heated seat knob I don't care about; intelligent cruise should have worked down to 0mph from day 1 in my mind; 7 speed is neither here nor there, after driving enough g37's I can't say I love the transmission; and the updated nav, honestly I think you should be able to update an 08 to the new system, not that you can, but I don't see why not.
The car still looks identical from the outside as it did in 2008, they're giving the fx a facelift for 2012, but not the ex. I would have liked to have seen a few changes to the body and interior by now, paddle shifters on the steering wheel would have been nice, plus a new engine option. They've had a diesel ex and the 3.7l gas ex in Europe now for the past few years, but here in the US there is no sign of either.
As much as I love Infiniti as a brand, and have had great service from the dealer I use, sadly, I think I'm going to put a deposit down on a Range Rover Evoque. It should launch here in November this year. I was in the UK for the past few weeks, and went round the factory where they are building them. Sat in a bunch, went out in one on a test drive. It's a great great car. The same size as the EX pretty much, but far better off road, and from what I've been reading, on road too (test drive didn't really get up too much speed!). Price wise the Evoque won't be much more expensive than a new EX for a fully specced version either. Plus, and this is a big plus for the number of miles I drive, the Evoque has a turbo 2.0l engine. Fuel economy should be 28/29mpg hwy, which is where I do most of my driving, and 0-60 is about 7 seconds, so only a little bit slower than the EX.
