I am wondering how exactly the auto dimming mirror works on the 2012 Rogue.
I have an auto dimming mirror on another car (2011 Charger) and under certain conditions (not always) you can see how it dims the headlights from the back and they turn greenish color. Now on the Rogue I have not seen that once. So does it work differently, are there certain conditions that have to be met first?

We do have a dark limo tint in the back.

Also, wanted to note that when we first got the car we had a regular auto dimming mirror then as part of the sale the dealer installed the Homelink Auto Dimming one. Both operate the same...

Can someone please explain how the dimming feature works (supposed to look) on this vehicle?

Thanks for posting the video. I was familiar with the operation of the mirror but was just wondering how to tell if this ani-glare feature is working. I noticed that they say anti-glare and nothing about auto dimming.

As mentioned before, I have an auto dimming mirror on my other car and you can clearly tell when it dims because everything turns greenish blue but not on the Rogue...so maybe it works differently?

Wasn't sure how helpful it would be. This is my first vehicle with this feature and I'm not overly impressed with how it works. As you mentioned that you have "a dark limo tint in the back", this may well have an impact on the mirror's performance. Just for giggles, have you tried shining a flashlight into it at close range to see what effect it has?

Never tried the flashlight. Wont hurt to give it a shot :)
On your car, when there are vehicles behind you at night can you tell that the mirror turns green/blue at all?

Doesn't appear to change.

Did you test it at night? It only works at night. The mirror has a sensor facing the front of the car and a sensor facing the back. The mirror will dim when the sensor facing the back sees more light than the front sensor.

I'm gonna hijack this thread so I don't have to make a new one.

I have an '08 Rogue S, but somehow I think mine is wire for the Auto Dimming Mirror... Am I imagining things? Here are some pics on what I'm basing my suspicion:

If it doesn't have auto-dimming I wonder why there are wires going to it. Might be a very easy modification for you.

Seems like the OP already knew the problem... limo tint. Mirrors dim with light, if you don't give them light, they don't dim. If it isn't blinding you I don't see the problem.

If you want to test it, cover up the front sensor(behind the rearview mirror), then use a flash light on the rear sensor(the one next to all the bottons), you should see the mirror dim

Turns out mine was defective. Dealership replaced it for free. And a week later I traded in for '12 Rogue.

Since my car was someone's lease before I bought it, I'm assuming that person had the auto dimming mirror installed and when the dealer put the car on sale they took it out and put up a regular mirror.

I don't always have problems with others cars lights at night, but once in a while I get an a**hole on a big SUV or truck with HID's that leave me blind, even with my limo tints in the back. Something that I would enjoy having is the homelink button :chuckle:

If those wires are for that, it might be an easy mod like Rogue Noob said...

do you have an auto start installed? that might be an antenna for it.

I actually don't use the auto dimm feature since I use a 360mm Broadway Type-A mirror  , everything is very clear even with the dark tint on my back window, with Rogue's crazy blind spot issue, I need all the help I can get. ;)

Yeah, I do have a Remote Starter... I'm more confuse now, I will have to check my girlfriend's Rogue because she does not have an Auto Dimming Mirror, but yesterday she got a Remote Starter installed at a Nissan Dealer. If she has that, then it might be an antenna

that would be it then, my remote start antenna is installed exactly the same as yours.

that is the receiver for the remote starter. I have the same black box with the antenna.

If you have an autodim mirror, you can understand it by just looking. Low profile, no sensors, just regular mirror with a knob at the bottom (to tilt the mirror behind the glass)

Nowadays everything becomes "auto". My Rogue has a regular mirror and once in awhile if the car's headlight behind me disturbs, I push the knob underneath and the glare is gone. so simple!

Do the new rogues come with remote start? The car kind of already has it built in, you just need to start and stop in from inside the car but you can walk away and lock it while it runs. Great for running errands with pups on board.

Just picked up a 20112 FWD SV w/SL package, but no remote start. Don't even think it's a factory option. Would be nice.

It's not a factory option, but I guess some Nissan dealers have the people to install them... In my girlfriend case, the installation price was included in the financing amount so the only thing she had to do was to call the dealer at a later day to make the appointment to get it install.

Sweet! I fell in love with my new Rogue the moment I laid eyes on it. Seriously overpaid, but love is stupid that way!

Does she have a second fob for the remote start, or a combined one?

Keyfob - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A key fob is a generally decorative and at times useful item many people often carry with their keys, on a ring or a chain, for ease of tactile identification, to provide a better grip, or to make a personal statement. The word fob may be linked to the low German dialect for the word Fuppe, meaning "pocket", however, the real origin of the word is uncertain. Fob pockets (meaning 'sneak proof' from the German word Foppen) were pockets meant to deter thieves and a chain was used (called a Fob Chain) to attach to items, like a pocket watch, that you would place in them.

Fobs vary considerably in size, style and functionality. Most commonly they are simple discs of smooth metal or plastic, typically with a message or symbol such as that of a logo (as with conference tchotchke) or a sign of an important group affiliation. A fob may be symbolic or strictly aesthetic, but it can also be a small tool. Many fobs are small flashlights, compasses, calculators, penknives, discount cards, bottle openers, security tokens and USB flash drives. As electronic technology continues to become smaller and cheaper, miniature key-fob versions of (previously) larger devices are becoming common, such as digital photo frames, remote control units for garage door openers, barcode scanners and simple video games (e.g. Tamagotchi) or other gadgets such as Breathalyzers.

Seems like a giant PITA for a remote start system. I had it on a previous car and it was just tucked in out of sight at the bottom of the windshield, and only the antenna could be slightly seen. That thing is hideous if put on aftermarket. I would be PISSED. They put in extra work to get it 18" higher off the ground and then have the install look like that? Ouch. I would leave this stuff to the professionals if the dealer is doing that kind of work.

Does your previous car's remote starter have the range of up to one mile? Something is wrong with you if you're bothered by that antenna. Toll transponder or most GPS is 10 times bigger than the remote starter antenna and almost all cars in any major US city have them on their windshield.

OK, we've gotten a little side tracked here. Here's an interesting thought... Is the Auto Dimming Mirror plug 'n play? Could I say, unplug my Auto Dimming Mirror and plug in one with the Homelink feature?

They have different plugs. I bought one on ebay and just cut the 2 wires on the auto dim one, and hooked the 3 wires ( 2 hot, one ground) from the Homelink one. It was very simple. There is also another thread on this forum.

Thanks for the reply. I just assumed it might plug in, due to this form the official install instructions. It looks to me like the wiring just plugs into the back of the mirror.
