I'm banging my head against the wall and hoping you can all help me. The A/C in my car either does not regularly blow cold air (even when set to 60) or it blows cool air in the back, but not in the front.
  • A/C set to on
  • A/C set to coldest temp (60)
  • Fuses have been checked by dealer
Coolant has been recharged or replaced
  • Massive out-of-warranty bill to replace the compressor
Any other suggestions? There are few things worse than having a car that's hot as heck inside, especially as it starts to get warmer and warmer.

This all started last year, spontaneously, and while there were periods were it may have improved here and there, I can't get it to cool. I've drive on the highway, turned the PTT on/off, toggled the A/C switch on/off.

Thanks for your help. I feel like I've got a lemon here.

Try having someone check the pressure in the system. Kits to recharge are cheap, around $30. If the compressor is running, you'll hear the clutch engage when you turn it on. You might check with a voltmeter for voltage if it's not engaging. Voltage is controlled by a pressure switch i n the high pressure line.
PS. Many Volvo owners have found they can fix an AC compressor by shimming the worn out clutch with bread bag clips!
