I know this is the first year for the stock Nav being offered, but man, the maps on this thing are really bad. It has no idea about roads that have been around for years, stores and restaurants that have been around for years while others that have been closed forever are still listed on there. Its really bad. Thankfully, I don't really rely on it for directions, but if I did I would be even angrier. I still think I'm going to drop Nissan Customer Service a line and complain. Not that I'm expecting them to do anything, but I just want to make it known that at the very least they need to offer a map update sooner than later.

I think you should find a way to update maps manually. For example on my pioneer I found safe mode soft for sd card and later updated maps from navtaq 2008 to teleatlas 2010. Seems like nissan is using Navteq but no update available yet:http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/INTERS ... erica-Site All you need is to find safemode for your unit and then upload new maps to nav system. You may want to try test mode for windows ce from your sd card but make sure to backup the whole thing first before modifying any files on it. Here's a link to it:http://hotfile.com/dl/113229364/de50b17 ... 3.rar.html Download, extract, copy to sd card, put sd card into unit and turn on unit. If it works then you're on a right track.

The Nissan map data is provided by NAVTEQ.

The 2011 maps are supposedly the most recent ones. Read more here:

http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/INTERS ... erica-Site

Honestly, I am not surprised by the POI (point of interest) inaccuracies. Even recent Garmin maps (also NAVTEQ data) have some out of date POI data. New roads can sometimes take up to a year or more to appear. It all depends on your location and the frequency of map updates.

Accurate map data is an issue with all GPS units as there are only a small handful of vendors providing the actual data: NAVTEQ and TeleAtlas are the 2 'big boys' along with DTMI Spatial (Canadian map data).

Phillipa did you see another misspelling of Rogue on that website? Maybe Nissan is about to rename it?

Yes, very shameful. If this keeps up I am going to buy a Nissan Frontier soon! ;)

Thanks Leo. I may get desperate enough to try that.

Phillip, I didn't realize it was NAVTEQ. I seriously wonder what version of maps they have loaded in the Rogue, because its certainly not up to date. If I look up the places on NAVTEQ's website, they're on there. But on my nav, they don't exist. The theater and restaurant I was trying to find opened up like 5 years ago in the same shopping area. Its not like they're terribly new. Heck, it didn't even show the shopping center I was in today as existing, and thats been there over a decade. Its really strange.

Who knows? It could be a fluke coincidence or perhaps the # of POI's was reduced due to memory constraints.

I own a couple of Garmin receivers (Nuvi car GPS and a Dakota hiking GPS). I never cross referenced the two, but the POI info in my Dakota is downright weird sometimes. There are small hamlets, schools, etc that don't even show up or are in the wrong location. We are talking places that have existed for decades!

I have a 2011, and the maps are bad. The indy airport has been there for three years, but not on my map, it's a cornfield.

MAYBE IF MORE PEOPLE COMPLAIN _MAYBE NISSAN WILL GET ON THE BALL AND GET UPDATE TO ALL 2011 Vehicles.

If this is thery first look at NAV-forget the 2012 models

Maybe you guys should go to your dealership and ask for update. There's TSB on all navigation units 2003-2011 for update. Here's the info:
"Description: NISSAN: NAVIGATION MAP DATA UPDATE MATRIX. AFFECTING ALL VEHICLES 2003-11 EXCEPT LEAF, EQUIPPED WITH NAVIGATION SYSTEM. CUSTOMER IS MAILED UPDATE DISC(S) OR SD CARD AND INSTALLS DATA; DEALERSHIP IS MAILED UPDATE DISC(S) AND THE DEALERSHIPS"

Leo,

I have that entire bulletin...

It's merely instructions for dealers & owners on how to obtain map updates. It doesn't identify any issues with Nissan Nav units. In the case of the Rogue:
SD Card – Customer is mailed update SD Card and can install data via port in vehicle.
If you go to http://www.nissannavigation.com, it will tell you if an update for the Rogue is available. As of Apr 4, 2011 there are no updates available.

My bad...I didn't read it carefully. Then you'll need to find a way to get in to safe mode throw sd card.

Try a Google search, there may be information out there on how to hack Nissan/Infiniti Nav systems.

Side note: I've seen and used the Lexus nav system on an RX350. You think Nissan's nav is bad! This thing has to be the most cumbersome poorly designed GPS interface I have ever used! I get frustrated within 5 minutes of using it! Heck, the RX350 is a $50K vehicle... you would expect better wouldn't you!

Have yet to even use my GPS on the Rogue but just from the looks of it I can tell right away my old Journeys GPS is much much nicer. After test driving damn near everything on the road before buying the Rogue I still think Dodge has the best GPS out there. Not sure who makes it but it has very nice graphics and almost user friendly.
