Hello all.
I recently started looking at a 2011 or 2012 QX56 for my wife's awful minivan.
Started looking at Infinity line and specifically the QX56. Not sure exactly which year, but my price range would put it between 2011 or 2012.

- Can you tell me what typically goes bad on these cars (quirks or known issues to look at)?
- Any opinions on general reliability of these cars?
- What sorts of parts start wearing out between 70K and 100K?
- What would be good/desirable options to look for in a used vehicle?

I really really appreciate any help you can give. Have a great weekend.

2012 is better.
there is a timing chain/oil jet recall on certain year qx's from 2011 to 2012-13. its coverd free by the dealer so make sure the car you're looking at has had it done. if not just be aware it should be done.

the car is built like a tank. nissan armadas ,titans all have have long life in them. look at any major armada/titan forum and you will see long term experiences.

what parts wear out? depends on how its taken care of. you can look at the maintenance schedule off the infiniti website to see what is suggested to maintain at those intervals.

what trim options you may want depends on what you want. i have a 2012 and all trim options. the HBMC alone is worth every penny, so definitely the touring package. if you have children and you want to go on road trips, the theater package is a must. again just depends on what you want.

some great info so thank you very much. What is HBMC? Yes, I have kids and was looking at the theater package ones. Do these come with different levels of entertainment packages? I see some with dvd on all headrests. About parts that do wear out, are there any that are a question of when rather than if?
Like in porsche cayenne, cardanne shaft is a when rather than if. Looking for info like that.
Thanks again.

BTW, why are 2012 better?

...also, how are these cars for fixing? Mean how easy are they to get at parts, and do easy through mid advanced type of work on them? Thank you again.

the qx model years you are looking at have one theater package. you have headrests in the back and up front you can watch media there when parked. there are ways to get around that restriction, but out from the factory you can only watch media up front when the car is parked with the parking brake on.

the theatre system allows each screen to have on a different source, so you could watch a video from a thumbdrive up front, the left rear screen can watch a dvd, and the right screen can play xbox or a ps4.

the 2012 is better in that it has some subtle refinements over the first run 2011 model. i just recommend you look at the 12 year first and, even if it means sacrificing a trim package..

there are not any major parts that MUST be replaced at a certain intervals. again check the maintenance schedule to see what things are required to be replaced at certain intervals.

if you have access to a garage and are handy with a wrench, you can do most maintenance things yourself. the service manual is freely available on this site and you can look through it to see how the car is designed.

there is a cat named "PetitFrereArmada " who is an active member her and on other nissan/infiniti forums, he has a 2012 just as i do and has done a lot of DIY maintenance on his own. he will no doubt see this post and offer his experience and recommendations too, so sit tight. its the weekend so give time for others to chime in.

you cant go wrong with the qx,. its a solid car and worth the investment. but like any other car, if its been dogged out, it will need more tlc than one that wasn't.
