That is the question.

I took my 2009 Nissan Rogue in for its 15,000 mile checkup the other day and while I was waiting I had a sales guy approach me and said that he could give me a really good deal on a 2011 Rogue with a better options package than what I have on my Rogue now (back up camera, intelligent key, leather seats, etc..). I was tempted because when I originally bought my Rogue I wanted the intelligent key and some other options but did not have the money at the time. I did not do anything that day but it got me thinking and now I am wondering if its something I want to do after all. It would be nice to have a fully loaded Rogue (maybe even with GPS although I hear the GPS system in the Rogue is placed weirdly and subpar in its look) but my concern is that I might encounter problems with it and so far my Rogue has been really good and no problems whatsoever.

Soooo the question is: Do the wise people of this forum think its a good idea to trade in or just stick with my 2009.......

It totally depends on how badly you want the upgraded options and what you're willing to pay - I have no idea what the "really good deal" is that the sales guy is offering you so it's tough to say.

Other than the options, it's the same car, there's no reason to believe that the 2011 would be any less reliable than the 2009, there's always a chance you'll get some defects but you'll start over with full warranty. I'm just guessing here but I'm sure the upgrade will cost you at least $5000 to $8000 range for the 2-year newer Rogue with full warranty and new options. You just have to decide if you want to spend $5000 on car options, or if you'd be happy with your 2009 and think of the other stuff you could spend $5000 on.....the other thing to keep in mind is that the 2011 will of course have better resale as the 2009 has already depreciated 2 years. Let us know what the "really good deal" is and maybe we can help a little more.

Usually trading cars after 2 yrs is not a good idea financially. Believe me I have purchased so many cars in my life. I like cars, I had extra money and after the 1st couple of times I learned to never pay over invoice and to get ahead on payments. Then 3 years is usually a good starting point for trading in. Especially since car prices have risen so much recently. I sold cars for about 5 yrs so I have seen some good deals that were not so good after all. Just a thought. I have purchased new cars because I wanted to. Not really a good financial decision though.

At first I thought if you have the money and really want to upgrade, do what makes you happy. If money is no object than that helps too! :bigthumb:

Another thought is the money you would have spent on a newer Rogue, the $5000-$8000 perhaps could be used to buy the things you like for your present Rogue.
Except for the intelli-key stuff, you can do the other things like convert to leather seats, way better GPS display, etc More money to pimp your ride per se.

Better back-up camera system if there is one, DVD entertainment.........or what not. Maybe cheaper in the long run too.

I recommend you sell it on Craigslist first to see how much you could sell it for rather than trade in. But I think Nissan gives you a good deal if you trade in a Nissan.
If you are tired of 4 cylinders you could always get a murano, its about 32k with all the features you want with gps I think.
