Probably, on the internet you can't find a comparison article between a Rogue and Edge, because they are "different" cars. The reason why I am writing this topic is to tell you how I miss my Rogue. I am not an expert on cars. Just a simple, ordinary customers/driver who uses car for commuting to work or buying groceries. So all I am writing here is just my personal views from a "layman's" point of view.
I have to admit I am biased. I love my Rogue and miss it very much.
-The Edge has a huge touch screen interface. You can control the AC, radio, telephone..everything. BUT if you have an iphone and ipad, your fingers uses to "touch" a screen and do whatever you want to do. I have to push really hard to select something on edge. I really don't like it. I need to read the owners manual to have the clock appear on the screen. It is so complicated. Rogues interface is easy, simple and straightforward. Just for me. Maybe some other customers want more stuff on the screen but most of the time I am DRIVING the car, so I don't want to distract by the complicated menus or sub folders...Oh even increasing the Bass, decreasing the Treble is a pain...I didn't like the touch screen interface.
-I hate it's bluetooth connection. In my Rogue, as soon as I enter the car it immediately connects to the bluetooth system. In Edge, I need to take the phone out of my pocket, turn of the keypad lock and say YES to the connection request??? That is terrible. Maybe I need to say "don't ask for permission" somewhere hidden under a menu. I don't care. Rogue never asked me!
-I understand that I really get used to the smooth CVT transmission. I HATE the regular automatic transmission. I even tried the manual mode of the transmission (when you activate the Manual mode, the instant fuel consumption -fuel economy- display disappears an rpm display and shift number appears. You want to go back to regular automatic transmission? then you need to go back to display - fuel economy and click OK. All you have to do all of them during driving in a busy traffic? I just want to see my instant consumption!!!!!!) I didn't like the shift shock...
-Fuel consumption (although I am driving it the same way I am driving my Rogue) is 13.5lt/100 km in the city. My Rogue was 9.3lt/100 km. I know Edge is 3.5 lt, V6 and Rogue is just 2.5lt. I understand that I really don't care about the power. I do care about the economy. My 2.5 lt engine is more than enough for me. For giving $5 more for every 100 km is not something I am interested. If I were 10 years younger and not married and power of the car is something I can be proud about...maybe. But now 5 bucks is a good money and from work to home - home to work I can even use a scooter
-The steering wheel is two times heavy than my Rogue. It is really more difficult to turn the wheels while parking. I miss my Rogue. Edge can be a "bigger" car. but not two times heavy...
-Edge has a panoramic roof but if you open it all the way to the back, you have to hold the switch until it closes completely. So it is not automatically closes. It does open automatically. My Rogue opens and closes with just a single touch. I don't care if the whole ceiling is open or not. Maybe I am old fashioned but in a roll over accident I don't trust a completely GLASS roof. Rogue's sunroof is my ideal size.
-It has dual zone automatic AC..WOW right? NO! You can't imagine how difficult to increase the heat and turn off the AC or vice a versa. To increase or decrease the temperature; if you want to do it manually, you need to find a tiny little (1/8" by 1/16") touch sensitive switch to increase..or decrease...but you have to look and find that tiny switch.. If you want to adjust the temperature by using the Touch screen interface...this is another story. You must poke for 10 times to reduce the temperature for 5 degrees each time. In my Rogue, WITHOUT LOOKING, I just turn the know at the centre for temperature, left for speed, right for the direction. That is what I want. without thinking or being distracted, do whatever I want to do.
My idea is this car is designed for average North American customers. At the dealer, they enter the car and impressed with the interior. Then they take the care for a test drive and impressed again. Even the animations (!) on the dashboard when you start the car (like the speed needle goes to max and zero again) are just to SELL the car. After they sell the car to the customers (or after the customers open the gift wrap at home) then here comes MANY design problems...
Our Rogues have not to many toys to play. I know. But the ones we have are all necessary ones and designed perfectly fine.
Yes my Rogue has not even one tenth of the bells and whistles like the Edge has..but who cares? Today I called my body shop and literally begged them to give my Rogue back. My "property adjuster" at the insurance company didn't undestand why I called her to send the assessor to the body shop as soon as possible (there is a small possibility to finish all the body work today and give the car back on Friday afternoon). She said "you are driving a 2011 Ford Edge, enjoy it during the weekened"
