I purchased this car used in October. Overall, it's in great shape with the exception of the bluetooth not working at all.

Symptom: Nothing happens when I press the phone control buttons on the steering column. All other buttons work properly.

My initial thought was that the buttons themselves were the problem. After playing with the service menu on the nav unit I was able to determine that the button presses are being received. Then I thought, maybe the tel adapter unit was the problem, but I think the steering column buttons pass through the tel adapter before heading to the nav unit. I think this would suggest that the tel system is alright?

Here's the relevant info
- steering column button presses are being received by nav unit (per the service menu>running system status>steering wheel key)
- fuse 35 and 20 are intact (I'm under the impression that these are vital to the tel adapter)
- BTHFU status in service menu is good
- all other sound works properly including navigation; bluetooth sound is the only problem

Has anyone else run across this problem or know any further steps I can take to diagnose it? My Nissan dealer wants $150 just to look at the car, so I'd rather figure this one out on my own if possible!

Need more info...
What phone are you using?
Is the phone operating system up to date?
Have you verified your phone's compatibility? http://www.nissanusa.com/bluetooth/search
Did the dealership help you pair up your phone when you purchased the car?

Thanks for the reply. My phone is compatible (Samsung Galaxy Note 4) and fully up-to-date. Unfortunately, I cannot even get to the point where you pair the device. When I press the bluetooth button on my steering column nothing happens. My car most definitely has bluetooth as it's the 2011 SL with Bose and Navi.

Just an update: I went ahead and found a used tel module (part #28383-JJ50B) on ebay for $60 ($1,100 from Nissan!). I'm pretty sure this is the "bluetooth brain." I'm going to try swapping it out and see if that fixes my problem. I'll update again after the swap.

Anyone have any tips on accessing this module? From what I understand, it's in the lower luggage side so I'll have to pry off the inner liner. I'd prefer not to break anything while doing this!

Check the FSM, there's a link in my sig. That might work, but there may be a problem with the head unit. Keep us updated.

Great news! The tel unit was the problem. The replacement module works perfectly. It was a bit of a pain to access it and the FSM proved to be indispensable. No idea what I would have done without it! $60 and my time for a >$1000 fix from Nissan. I think that's a win! Thanks for the help!

Awesome! I'm guessing you didn't take any pictures during the install.

Unfortunately, I didn't. So sorry...I should have thought about that!

I did happen to snap one shot after I got all the trim off though.

The tel unit (outlined in red) is hanging. I hadn't secured it at this point, because I was still testing it. The unit mounts just inside the metal frame behind the it in the picture
