I just wanted some feedback to some issues I am having with my 2011 Nissan Rogue.

So about a month ago I noticed this loud, high pitched noise coming from what sounded like the alternator. A week later Nissan determined it was the Crank Shaft Pulley that was making the noise due to excess play. They replaced it and all ways well... for a month. Two weeks ago it started making the same noise, this time much worse. I took it back in last week and today I find out that they want to replace the entire motor and transmission. Ok fine by me, sort of.

This is my main issue. My car has less that 10,000 miles on it. In this past year Nissan has made adjustments to the axles, due to excess play, and to the doors, because there was excessive play in the hinges. I am starting to think my Rogue was made on a Monday, because it sure seems now that this thing was not bolted together "correctly".

Now to the part where I would like some feedback:

1) Has this happened to anybody else?
2) Is it okay for me to feel apprehensive about going forward?
3) Could I ask Nissan to consider my vehicle a Lemon and ask for a replacement?

Thanks for your help and advice!

This is a bearing issue. The crankshaft bearing is causing the harmonic balancer to go out which they replaced. That is also what the torque converter is attached too. It happens due to a spun bearing, poor oil or untimly oil changes or failed oil pump or poor lubrication for whatever reason. It happens and nothing you can do. I'd take a new engine and transmission and try it. You never know how parts will work until you try them. Keep us updated

Thanks for your response! It's interesting that you mentioned the torque converter, because today things have good from bad to worse. When I started my car it made a clattering noise for couple of seconds then when I was driving it around town I had my foot planted on the ground to get it go anywhere. We will find out Monday what is going on after the dealership comes to tow it away... they have recommended I not drive it.

I will yet another twist to this. So both times that this problem has occurred the fuse to my horn/alternator has blown. Is this an indicator of the same bearing issues or something completely unrelated. I seem to think it is somehow related, although my knowledge is car is not a vast as others. Nissan on the other hand doesn't seem to think so. Opinions?

horn/alternator in one fuse? really? hmmm tough to tell. power spikes or shorts cause fuses to blow. electrical issues are a maze to chase even when in front of you - let alone via the net to guess. spun bearings wont interfere with electrical issues unless serious vibrations cause power spikes.

I'm sorry to hear about your bad luck, overall the Rogue is very well built and reliable but all manufacturers will have a small number of bad parts.

I consider you quite lucky that you are getting a completely new engine and trans, Nissan is very good with quickly approving warranty replacement parts but the same can't be said for all manufacturers - if this was a Dodge or GM they would be attempting a repair/rebuild/bandaid fix, I know from past experience. The problem is it can be very tricky to fully diagnose internal engine and trans problems (and related external problems like bad pulleys etc.) and engine building is a very precise science that many service techs simply don't have enough experience with. Often these attempted repairs are the start of a long and frustrating process of repeated failures and the owner completely losing confidence in the vehicle and having terrible buyers remorse. These owners would do anything for a new powertrain replacement but often must wait for their service shop to get the repairs right.

My advice is to relax, let your warranty take care of the problem, and trust in the quality engineered Nissan engine and CVT transmission. I would bet money that this complete replacement will eliminate your issues and you'll have a solid reliable vehicle for a very long time. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Well said Kerrton! In the past I've had such bad luck with vehicles that my partner once joked that it probably wouldn't matter if I bought it or some else bought the car for me, I'd still have trouble with it! Only took me thirty years to wise up and stop buying American cars.

To the OP, here's the lowdown on Lemon Laws http://www.carlemon.com/
Lemon Law Coverage For All States: Consumers everywhere are protected by the Federal Lemon Law which applies to all consumer products, including automoblile, trucks, motorcycles, RVs, boats, and all other ordinary consumer products including computers and household appliances.
Repair Interval and Coverage Period: 3 to 4 repairs for the same problem, or 6 to 8 repairs to the entire product during the warranty period.

Kerrton: I still love my Rogue. The days that I had a Nissan Rental, an Altima, I longed for my car. I was very happy to get it back. This will be the third car I have owned and by far I am the most satisfied with it.

Rogue One: That is why I think they are offering to replace the engine... to avoid the 4 repairs and done sort of thing.

We will find out Monday around 7:30am when they take it in for service. Fingers crossed all goes smooth.

I own 2010 Rogue- SL AWD, 39000 km on it. It gave me no trouble whatsoever till yesterday. I was driving as ususal at 60 kmph and suddenly it started stalling and then engine died. No warning at all.I was stuck right on the centre lane. I tried to turn it on, but no success. It cranks but nothing further. Fortnately I purchased ASP with the car, so I called Nissan roadside assistance. Tow truck arrived in less than 30 minutes and towed car to my dealer. It was 10.30 pm and dealer was closed. I checked with them today morning and they told me that the computer shows no error codes, and the engine just don't start. They were unable to figure out till they closed at 4 pm. Sunday they are closed so, Monday they will contact Nissan Tech. and get some deep diagnostics done. I am waiting.
As Kerrton rightly said, Nissan's warranty service is excellent. They arranged for the rental car which came right to my door. All charges taken care by Nissan (covered under ASP). By the way , the rental car is Ford Escape 2012, with 9000 km on it. Afetr I drove it today I am happy I am a Rogue owner. I will keep you all updated with the outcome of the diagnostics.
