Mechanic says the passenger headlight igniter has failed. Need to replace the entire assembly. Tech package has adaptive headlights. Retail OEM is $3,000 CND.

Questions:
1. Is there any way to repair the igniter, or replace another part other than the entire headlight assembly?

2. Where is the most economical place for this part? I looked on eBay, tried a few other spots, but not easily found for less than full retail. Don't think 2011 Maxima will fit it either.

lol. Mechanic is on crack.

You can replace the bulb, ignitor and ballast independent of changing the assembly. The only reason to change the assembly is if it was damaged or AFS motors stopped working or something.

You can pick up an OEM-like aftermarket setup from TheRetrofitSource for $200ish give or take. You'll have to drop the bumper to remove the assembly, replace the parts and then re-assemle.

I did this on my '11 M56x. If your mechanic presses, find another one...or show him this post. Specifically me telling him to lay off the crack.

I believe the one I purchased was: https://www.theretrofitsource.com/oe-re ... quantity=1

But if you're unsure, just call TRS and their customer service will take care of you. They are known for excellent CS.

You should be able to use the bake method to open them and re-seal them. Just like modders who mod headlights do. Question would be where to get the replacement cover...junk yard, etc. probably.

I've only ever owned Nissan/Infiniti vehicles (my first two cars - family hand downs - don't count lol). Two Nissan Maxima's (97 GXE and 99 SE) and two M's (07 M35x and my current 11 M56x)...and my wife's 16 QX60. That being said, I've been around NICO for a minute :rotflmao .

But yeah, if you can find a headlight where the back of it is trashed on eBay or at the junk yard (or a light that has many broken clips) but the lenses are in good shape, you should be able to open it up using the oven bake method and then reseal with new glue (keep in mind it is special adhesive to keep moisture out).

Those are likely knock offs...better to go with TRS.

Ignitors and ballasts are a special case, because just about all the automotive ones in the world are made in a Matsushita or Matsushita-licensed plant someplace, mostly in China. Chances are what you buy on eBay, etc, is "gray market" and not a knockoff. I.e., it's the genuine article, but sold by Matsushita or a licensee without OEM labeling and packaging. I wouldn't recommend buying anything with a 3rd-party label, but anything with a Matsushita label is generally a safe equivalent to the OE part.
