Backing into my parking spot today i could hear a motor groan and my steering wheel was a little tough to turn = power steering pump... call my mechanic he agrees. He starts looking/calling around the prices varied from $250-$1200

The issue is parts suppliers say i need the pump that the 4was uses...i dont have 4was.

Rock auto had a part listed for my car at $193

Hitachi PSP0036 is the part #

Thought, experiences, etc...?

You sure you aren't just low on fluid? Or have a leak?

I did a fluid level check and it was fine...though my power steering fluid is definitely brown instead of red.
My mechanic(who has worked on all my different cars and I trust implicitly) and myself couldnt find a leak...but we both heard the PSP struggling when we turned the wheel in park.

Since I posted this I got a message form Rock Auto saying the part I ordered is "out of stock"... so i am f*** as to what I am going to do. I will fix it, but the angry money side of me says, "f*** this...buy a M56" BUT i am sooo close to paying this car off I dont really want to start over.

Can you flush the fluid? Did that to my Chrysler when it started whining. Flushed the fluid and the whine was gone.

Its more than just a whine. And when I last looked under the hood it looked like and smelled like power steering fluid was burning on the block (possibly leaking )

Not that I saw. Its going to the shop today. Might have to bite the bullet on the Infiniti dealer parts counter cost ($594).

Though part of me wonders if I could use the power steering pump off of an 2011 G37x?

My mechanic just sent me a text... he found me a used pump with 55k on it for $105.

Pulling the trigger on that immediately. My M37x has 105k on the clock and runs great hoping this is just a wear and tear fluke.

Got my car back today. Drives great. I paid $288 out the door.
