2011 M37x loud exhaust at cold start

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum. I did a search for this topic, but couldn't find a match. I purchased my car in September and love it, except for a few annoying issues. From day one, the car's exhaust has been loud at cold start - it quiets down after a minute or so. Its almost like an exhaust bypass opens just downstream of the manifold (the sound comes from under the car just behind the engine) and then closes as the engine warms. No warning lights are lit on the dash. Is this normal?

I know on my g37 (same engine) its loud at startup esp when its cold. The rpms are higher starting off around 1000-1200 rpms and then when the engine warms up down to 550.

Your cars are direct injection right? Well you are hearing the cold start and basically diesling sound like a truck. biggets problem with DI engines overcoming the sound.
