I drove the car in the morning for about 30 minutes. Came home, shut off the engine and made sure nothing else is on. Locked it up. An hour after, I star it up, it starts and immediately shuts off. I did this about 5 to 6 times. Finally it started and stayed on but the rpm dropped and it seemed like the engine was going to shut down again but it stayed on. I turned it off. Locked the doors and tried starting it up again. It started right away and engine stayed on. RPM seems to be steady while idling. I haven't driven the car since. If anyone have any idea why it was shutting down, please chime in. The car has 50K+ miles. Thanks in advance.

Just to get the obvious out of the way...I assume you have enough fuel in the car.
I'm not a mechanic so not sure where I would start looking. Air filters? Fuel filters? Moisture in the fuel?
Guys that know more about this than me, please chime in.

Thanks wideopn11. I have a full tank of gas. I actually just filled it up. Drove about 5 miles from gas station to home. Let the car sit for about an hour and that happened. I drove it this morning and dropped it off the dealership. It's still under warranty so figured why not. On my way it ran perfectly. Maybe a hiccup? Guess I'll find out today.

Just an update in case anyone else runs into this issue and are not under warranty. I was told by dealership there's carbon built up in throttle chambers so they cleaned them. So far no issues.

Interesting. Was it sticking at low rpm?

Hmm, interesting, I have had this same issue with my 2011 M56 and when I took it to the dealer, they found nothing and of course it started perfectly every time. I will have to perform a throttle body service and see if it helps. Thanks!

Car was running perfectly even on the way to the dealership.
