I've never had an issue with car until today. Went to start car and the Warning key system light is on, and car will not start. Steering wheel is unlocked, and is usually locked when car is parked? Has anyone else had this happen, and if so, what was the fix?

What does it show you?

If it looks like the fob then you need a battery installed in the fob, funny thing is I just installed one in mine not more than ten minutes ago.

I think it's a CR2025. Available anywhere

I hope that's what it is.

Might be batteries or what happened to my car. Both fobs lost programming. Dealer replaced both fobs (under warranty) and redid the programming. If the car fails to start, try holding the fob to the start button...just a handy trick I learned on Google.

I tried the holding the fob to the start button, it made the chime noise for a few seconds because I had the door open. But still would not start. I think it has something to do with the steering lock control unit. Because I have seen videos on youtube of this problem with nissan and other infiniti cars

I have the same issue with my 2011 Infiniti M37. The light came on last week when I got in the car, but it cranked up. I turned the car off, walked back into the house to open the fob and re-seat the battery and when I came back to the car it started and the warning light was off. I couple of days later it happened again. I walked away from the car far enough so that the key wouldn't affect the car and walked back. It started up and the light was off again. This happened one other time. However, yesterday when it happened the car would not start. I had it towed to the Nissan dealership and they say it's the Steering lock control and quoted me over $1600 to repair it. I have an extended warranty but apparently it's not worth the paper it's the Steering lock control and quoted me over $1600 to repair it. I have an extended warranty but apparently it's not worth the paper it''s written on because they declined to cover it. Is there anything I can possibly do to mitigate this huge cost?

If am not mistaken I believe I receive a notice in the mail from Nissan regarding this issue when I had my 20009 Maxima.

I can't recall the exact details but I did receive the notice and it had something to do with the steering wheel.

NISSAN ALTIMA AND MAXIMA STEERING LOCK PROBLEMS TO BE FIXED
Nissan agrees to 'service campaign' to fix 2009-2010 Nissan Altima and Maxima steering locks.

March 7, 2017 — Nissan Altima and Maxima steering lock problems will be fixed for free after the automaker announced a "service campaign" for 243,000 model year 2009-2010 Nissan Altima, Altima Coupe, Altima Hybrid and Maxima cars.

Although not a recall, the service campaign will fix steering locks that have plagued Altima and Maxima owners for years and caused owners to send their bank accounts into shock.

The cars are equipped with electronic steering column locks (ESCLs) that lock the steering wheels when the Altima and Maxima cars are parked and turned off. However, those steering locks have serious problems and can leave owners and their cars sitting in parking lots or driveways...
