My 2011 SR has 65k on it and the original brake components. I get an occasional "gentle" grinding/rubbing noise when the brakes are warmed up and I stop hard but the pads and rotors look fine and have 1 or 2 mm until the wear bars start screeching. Its definitely not metal to metal grinding.
At first I thought it might be a bearing issue and took it to the dealer for a test drive to show them the noise. They said it was something to do with the rotor being too rough. I wasn't about to pay them to change my rotors so I took it home and decided to live with the noise until the pads are worn. I've tried switching the pads from one side to the other, the rotor from one side to the other, re-lubing the pins, etc and I think I've minimized it.
Midas does brake inspections for free with an oil change so they can tell you how much wear your pads have and if there is a stuck caliper or something.
However, brakes are incredibly easy to do yourself with just a socket set and maybe a breaker bar ($20) You can borrow a torque wrench for free from auto parts stores and use the spare tire jack to jack the car up. A jack, jack stands, and a battery powered impact driver will make it even easier though. They will pay for themselves after a couple DIY routine maintenance jobs.
