Just thinking out loud after seeing the mudguards thread. I absolutely love the look of the new Q70's. The front end on the 2011-2014 isn't bad at all. I rather like it. But the rear, still after 9 months, is only 'eh' to me.

Couldn't find any threads talking about this. I do recall seeing one about the front but can't find it...so let's toss some ideas around in this thread for either side.

----------------------------------------------------

I've looked at images of pre-2015 Y51 M's and 2015's and it looks like all you'd need (I mean, it's not a little, but it's not structural) to change is the trunk lid, rear tails, and bumper. The outer edge of the outer tail light (specifically the top and side portion) looks to be the same design...so you wouldn't need to change the quarter panel in the rear. The contours of the trunk itself, where it meets the quarter panel, seems to be identical. Only reason why you'd need a new trunk is because of the tail light cutouts/size.

Here is a pre-2015 Y51 M Rear:

---------------------------------------------------

I also think the front is doable...you'd need headlights, grill, and bumper. Hood looks to be identical.

If I could just get the rear to get updated without spending a crap ton (I'd be willing to drop $2k at some point perhaps, for example), then that would be a win. Like I said, the front end isn't bad at all...it's the rear I can't stand.

Just looking at the front end, I think you would need new fenders as well. The shape of the old and new headlights are not the same.

The part that is surrounded by the fender looks the same to me. The part that is surround by the bumper cover, is different. You only need to look at the top right corner of the headlight for the fender, and that looks identical to me. Same with the rear...only the inner/middle part of the tail lights are different (hence needing a new trunk lid and bumper)...the outer part that touches the quarter panel looks identical.

I took a look at one in person today (I stopped by the dealership), I think you may be right about the front end.

It'll likely cost $5k to do a nice swap, but it's certainly better than trading the car in IMO lol. I LOVE that rear end...lawd.

The openings in the rear quarter panels for the taillights don't look the same. The height of the Y51 taillights taper as they approach the trunk lid.

Hmmmmm, I think the rear is the most handsome view...

I do agree the '15 parts will fit, the fenders/quarters will accept the new lights. For the cost compared to trading in, I suppose I can see why you'd do the bumper swap. I personally like my '13 stuff though. The '15 design is nice, but I think the previous year doesn't look as 'choppy' or edgy, that said I'd still get the new one lol.

From that angle, it does look good. Maybe I'm just partial to the old Skyline 'light rings' from the Y50 lol. But from other angles, like the side, etc. the rear end seems too small compared to the front which is 'beefy'. If Infiniti made the rear end more 'juicy' on this car and a bit bulkier, I think it would fit better.

I have been on the lookout and if the prices are right will do it. The headlights are the hardest piece of the puzzle currently. I have seen none for sale used so far and new prices are way too high. Everything else pops up for sale pretty regularly and/or is available new at a decent price.

That conversion came out on point @ Infinitimaster.
Just priced out the bumper, trunk lid and lights with my Infiniti dealer. They're coming up with a total for parts of almost $3400. Did you have to buy any of the smaller components or just those 3 listed above?

The images are broken again...seems like the folder they were in in DropBox got deleted or locked.

Please upload them to a proper image hosting site like Imgur and update the links. Google Drive and DropBox are not good for this type of sharing (on public forums) because of their inherent security measures.

be careful doing something like this. if you were to ever get in a wreck, insurance might not cover it. they will only pay to replace parts that match to your VIN.
