Anyone have a 2011-2013 QX56 with over 200,000 miles that did not have to have a timing chain replaced? The reason I ask is I just purchased a used 2011 QX56 that was not affected by the timing chain recall that only has 100,000 mi on it. It is in mint condition that was garage kept. I love the vehicle but did not know there were timing chain recall issues with this model. I'm debating on selling it, or keeping it based on responses to this question. Infiniti consumer affairs and the infiniti dealership service managers are essentially useless on explanations of why my vehicle was not affected. They do not even know the root cause of whether it was a timing chain defect or if it was caused by a lack of lubrication. The service manager at infinity told me today that it was because the timing chains were not beefy enough and that the recall replaced them with more heavy duty timing chains. If that were the case, all of these models would have been recalled. When I pressed him further, he confessed that he really did not know for sure. I believe based on my reading of the forums that it was due to improper fit of some of the oils jets resulting in oil bypassing the jets that were supposed to spray lubrication onto the timing chains resulting in the chains stretching over time. This particular vehicle that I have may not have had its engine manufactured in the range where the defect was generated. But not sure since no one from Infiniti can give me a sensible, verifiable answer. That is why I'm posting this question to the users. I have seen Reddit posts where some 2011 through 2013 QX56's that were not recalled timing chains failed in the same manner as the affected ones. That is why I'm searching to see if any unaffected ones made it to the 200,000, mile range without having to have a timing chain replaced. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Just a friendly FYI. Cross-posting (i.e. posting the same message in more than one forum board) is frowned upon. It's confusing and often counterproductive. Please choose the forum topic that is closest to your post, and place it there only. Thanks for letting me know that. However, if I do not get any responses in this thread. I will probably repost this question in those other applicable threads where I had this question. I had posted this question in the engine reliability thread which this is applicable. And I had posted this question in the introduction section which is probably also applicable. So I'll give this one a little more time and see what happens. So, the question remains. Has anyone gotten 200,000, mi or so on a 2011 through 2013? QX56 without having to replace a timing chain? Thanks in advance for any and all replies. So far, I haven't seen anyone anywhere on the web ask this question or anywhere on the web where anyone has indicated they have gotten in the neighborhood of this mileage without having to replace a timing chain. So I think it would be interesting to know. If you can't get in the neighborhood of 200,000, mi without having to replace a timing chain, then I'll probably sell my QX56 that has about 100,000 mi on it that was not affected by the recall.

I would still want to do the timing chain. Our '12 was done under the recall, but then at 134k or so it was mech totaled due to the timing chain/lifter bucket issues.

Thanks for that information. I've seen other stories like that for the vehicles that were impacted by the recall. As for the ones that were not impacted by the recall, here's what I was able to put together: I was able to get an answer to my question by talking to an infiniti service technician that indicated to me he had serviced many QX56s that were unaffected by the recall that had not had to have a timing chain replacement. Additionally, I filtered QX56's with high mileage on auto trader and looked at their Carfax reports and was able to see many that had made it above 200,000 miles that had not had to have a timing chain replacement. So, I feel much better about owning one that was unaffected by the recall. My wife has since decided she wants a smaller SUV and we're going that route. But I have concluded that these unaffected ones are solid vehicles based on this information and the one that I have with everything completely functional at 100,000 mi.
