2010 versa engine noise?

i read in some of the threads about the starting of the car making a rattling noise which i hear it's normal. ok. but when im driving and about to get to 20mph i hear a very loud knocking sound coming from the passenger side front engine. anyone has any idea to what that can be. it only happens when it's from a cold start. i wait till the cold light is off to go then it happens. even when it's warm and i leave my car for a lil bit. it does it again.

if it only happens once, mine does the same thing. my guess has been the a/c compressor pressurizing, but i have'nt been able to prove that yet. I haven't found anyone that will sit in the engine compartment while I drive.

I read that on the Versa the ABS system does a self test diagnostic on starting between 15 and 20 mph. The thump lasts for a few seconds and then stops. Noise comes from the right front. Hopefully someone with specific knowledge can give us a heads up.

Yes it is the ABS doing the self-calibration for a few seconds as you hit 19 MPH or 30 KPH the first time.

my fiance has the same car but auto and i don't hear that noise at all. one thing that bugs me about the car is the airbag light goes on and off. my mom can sit in the passenger seat and the light saying air bag is off comes on. my sister who is 10yrs sits there and the light is off.

the light on/off has to do with their weight difference. It turns off if no one or a small child is in the seat. When a certain weight sits on the seat, it turns on.

There is a weight sensor built into the seat. Airbags are known to kill small children. So I think the sensor detects 50 pounds or less and de-activates the air bag.
