I just bought a brand new 2010 Versa 1.8S 6 speed manual car. However, for the life of me, I can not get consistent smooth upshifts from 1st to 2nd gear.

I've tried shifting at 2000 rpms up to 3000 rpms in first gear. I've tried dumping the clutch. I've tried giving gas as I'm releasing the clutch.

The only one method that seems to get the best shifts is if I pause the clutch at the friction point, but I'm afraid that over the long term my clutch will get burned out.

yeah, it takes some getting used to... what I do if I want it to be smooth is double clutch second....

so if your driving in 1st, clutch in, take it out of gear, let out the clutch, clutch back in, second gear, let it out...

The reason why giving it gas as you let out the clutch is because its revving the car higher than it is going in 1st gear, when 2nd gear is going to rev lower, so it actually doesnt help you. But try the double clutching and see if it works!

I had to make some serious adjustments to my driving when I bought the versa. My Z32 has a light weight flywheel, so the RPM drops pretty quickly. The Versa revs like it has a 400lb flywheel and I have to let completely off the gas between shifts, pause for a second then let the clutch out when shifting.

Just keep playing with it until you find your sweet spot, I really do think the versa happens to have a very heavy flywheel, thing takes FOREVER to rev.

It took some getting used to on my end as well. Basically the best advice I can give is to just keep driving and eventually you'll find the sweet spots for smooth shifting.

that just make us to wish that we had access to lightened flywheel and clutch kit!

But my trick is to always start in 2nd gear
