Drove to kentucky from Columbus, ohio. Everything was going fine, until we hit some hills I describe it as a whirling noise, and it ecspecially did it when I was trying to climb and accelerate. I noticed after the sound was louder than my radio. And it was doing it deceleration and accelerating. I didnt trust it, so we turnd around and went home, total of 4 hours on the road. Now,I have also had the eperience of sitting at a light and when it turns green my rpms spike up and the rogue barely goes. I let off and press again and finally its starts to gain speed and im up and moving. Im gonna take it in monday. I have 40300 miles on it. But seriously..lounder than the radio. Also, I did have a/c on and when it happned, i turned it off. It made no difference.

Ok finally got my rogue back. Dealer said nissan put out another TCM & ECM updates. They said if i have any more transmission issues they will just install a new transmission. They said protocol is reprogramming......which this is the 2nd update since i bought it. After that is there is anymore issues...they just install another transmission. I have to admit......it seemed very smooth. True test is when go on a trip driving for several hours.

Hi there, sorry for the late response. I was going to say that this sounds like quite a common CVT noise and I too have this noise when cruising on the highway on a warm day and the noise gets much louder as rpms are raised above 3000.

I checked the Nissan Tech site for the new TSB you were referring to but there was nothing new. If you could please get back to us after a long highway trip I'm very interested to know if your whirring/whining noise is gone or still present. I can't imagine what a reprogram could do to eliminate a bearing or steel belt noise like that, but you never know.

I was going to take my car to Nissan next week actually for a road trip with a tech so he can hear my noise at highway speed, I'm really not looking forward to it because I'm guessing either he'll call it "normal" or he'll want to replace the whole CVT which is a big inconvenience. If this can be solved with a reprogram that would be great but I'm not holding my breath, I'll wait to hear back from you. Thank you!

I am having the exact same problem. Huge noise especially climbing even down the hills on the highway, significant at over 3000 RPM. I will have the CVT replaced next week. Hopefully lucky enough to have the problem resolved.
