Over the past 6-8 months or so my wifes' 2010 Rogue has been experiencing an issue with the hatch. Usually while driving (but occasionally when first starting the car) you hear the latch release noise, the open door light indicator comes on, but the hatch doesn't completely open. We've had the dealership look at this issue a couple of times now and we've been told that we must not have closed the hatch properly to begin with. I've tried closing the hatch with enough force that the car bounces, and we still have the problem.

Fortunately, this only seems to be an issue with the rear door and not a passenger door, but it's getting a little concerning since it's starting to happen more frequently. We did have an aftermarket remote starter installed in the car, but it was installed through the dealership(for warranty issues). I had an alarm installed in a previous car that was under warranty and the dealership was refusing to fix an issue until I showed the TSB for the issue I was having and didn't want similar problems with the Rogue.
I was hoping that someone here might be able to shed some light onto what the issue could be.

I would try another dealership. Can't you reproduce the issue in front of them?

Since you said you have installed remote starter and MOST of remote starters have an option of opening a trunk from remote so it is possible they have connected a wrong wire to the hatch or the remote starter is lagging. You have to complain more to the installer or the best option would be disconnect opening the trunk option completely from remote starter. Even if you don't have an option of opening the hatch from remote they still could connect it to the wrong wire which is bugging.

Unfortunately, it's not something we can reproduce on demand. It happens randomly, sometimes when the car is first started and others while driving. Might happen two days in a row and then not happen for a couple of weeks.

This remote starter doesn't have a trunk option on the remote. It's using the standard Nissan remote. We had the remote starter installed through the dealership we bought the car at, although I believe they use a third party for the installs. The car is going in next week to get the snow tires put on and to have another look at this problem so I'll ask them to confirm the wiring of the remote starter.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Might it be possible for you to disconnect / remove the fuse for the remote starter and still have your vehicle start normally?

If so, I would try that to see if the problem may be an erroneous signal by the remote starter. It won't isolate any problems due to improper installation.

i think its time for the dealer to replace the BCM(body control module).

can you do me a favor, and while driving = lock your car doors to see if they too get activated when you hear the rear hatch become unlocked.

I'll have my wife mention the BCM to the dealership when she takes it in this week. I'll also ask her to try the locks if it happens again before the appointment.
