Hi,

I have 2010 Qx56 with 80K miles, a month ago one of the TPMS stopped displaying the tire pressure numbers on the center screen, the rest of them work with no problems. The tires were replaced about 3 months ago so I took it back to the tire place and they reset /re-registered them and still nothing. They thought it was TPMS issue and I thought the TPMS battery was dead. I took it to the dealership for an the oil change and they checked it out as well all four sensors are registering with no problems, they even reset it for me and still nothing. They now think it is an electrical issue and have to do some further diagnostic testing.

Has anyone faced this similar problem? If so, what was the fix for this?

Thank you in advance.

The sensor battery or the vehicle's battery? If it is the sensor battery that cannot be replaced by itself, the whole sensor has to be replaced....right? Also, if all sensors are registering when they did the reset then it might be something else....correct?

in theory the bats in the sensors CAN be replaced. im not sure if you went to the dealer or a 3rd party mechanic, so thats why i asked this question.

if you went to the dealer, they would just replace the entire sensor.

i dont see how the faulty sensor can "register" but not work? if the battery is dead, how can the computer they use to register it detect it? at this point its just a conventional valve stem.

these batteries last about 5-6 years under normal use and your battery is most likely just dead. rather than create more headache, just get it replaced.

so did the tpms work BEFORE the tire change or did it stop working AFTER the tire change?

Per the dealership the sensors are registering but I'm thinking it is just a faulty sensor. The sensors worked fine before and after the tire replacement and the tires were replaced about 3 months ago, and approximately 3 weeks now one of them is non functional.

So to answer your question, the tires were replaced at a tire store and sensors were working fine and now one of the sensors quit so I took it back to the tire place they said it was registering with no problems. I took it to the dealership for an oil change they checked the sensors and said the same all four are registering and also reset it for me but still not functioning.

just sounds confusing. the sensor is faulty. replace it. there is nothing else one can do. replacing the battery is not practical (but it has been done)....

Yes, I've had issues like this before on multiple Infiniti vehicles. The solution ...replace the sensor, have the dealer reset all of them, and it should resolve the problem. Either the battery in the sensor is bad or the sensor itself is bad. On my latest issue with a TPMS sensor just this past summer, the faulty sensor would display the tire pressure for a little while right when I start driving, then go dead after say 20 minutes of driving. On screen, the pressure for that tire would initially display the pressure like 35 psi, then after 20 minutes show up as an astericks. In addition, the flat tire light on the dashboard would also illuminate. I had a Nissan dealer replace the problem sensor and reset all wheels and problem solved. This was on my QX56 but I also had this problem on my former FX45. Also, I would not buy the sensor from the dealers ...they want something like $100 for each one. I would buy them on eBay (new) for half that price and just have the dealer install them.

ive never had to purchase any.

just grab the model/part number from the dealer and cross reference online. safest way in my opinion.

I just wanted to follow up with this. I took the vehicle to the tire shop this week since there was a leak in one of the tires, low tire pressure warning comes on every 7 to 10 days. They checked the tire and there was no nail or any sort of damage. They said the TPMS valve was leaking air and causing the low tire pressure warning and not displaying tire pressure on the information center. They fixed the TPMS with the repair kit ($8) and reset all 4 TPMS, all of them displayed the tire pressure on the screen but after few minutes of the driving the repaired one went out again and does not display it anymore. I took it back and ordered a new TPMS locally and they swapped it out and same results again, works for a little bit and by the time I get home it is does not work. They think it might an issue with the computer system. Also, I never swapped the vehicle battery, it is still weak at 580 to 600 CCA (rated 710 CCA) but starts and drives fine.

I'm thinking maybe the battery is causing the electronics to act up.

Also, if anyone is looking to buy a replacement TPMS, this is what I bought "Schrader TPMS Sensor Part No. 28204".

Thanks.
