Hi,

My Qx56 has a new problem with the cruise control, while setting the cruise control and driving for a bit, a mile or so it will turn off the cruise and this only happens randomly and no warning lights or flashing on the instrument cluster. Also, I replaced the battery yesterday thinking that might be the problem but it didn't make any difference. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

check for any DTC's at the obd port.

could be an issue in the canbus or a fault in the cruise system.

I will scan OBD port for codes. Also, I'm thinking it could be a faulty cruise control switch, the one located by the brake pedal.

Update - My wife drives the Qx56 as her daily driver and so I took it for a test drive to replicate the issue and realized that the cruise control (set) flashes on the cluster but only happens randomly. I replaced the cruise control switch and still having the same problem? Any idea what could be the issue?

did you pull any codes? this is the first place to start.

could be the radar, or anything in between.

I did scan and no codes showed up, everything looks good there. Where is the radar located?

there is a sensor somewhere that is failing causing the cruise to disengage for safety reasons.
that is a deep rabbit hole to go down with limited info available.

i mean are you the only owner? is this a second hand or third hand vehicle?
any mods done to the cars electrical system? what repairs have been done to it in the past?

could be a fault in a wiring harness somewhere.

it could be a ;lot of what ifs. at some point it may be wiser more practical to take it to a dealer and at least have them attempt to isolate the issue. then with that info you can either see about fixing it yourself or having them do it if the price is right.

if you want to broaden your search, go to your favorite internet search engine and type in "cruise control issue armada" (the armada and qx of that same year are the same car in many respect as they were both made on the same line).

Thanks, we are the second owner and own it for 2 years now, the only aftermarket product this vehicle has is LED lights for the interior and is been in use since we bought the vehicle. I will take it to the dealership and we have extended warranty through a third party company so hopefully it will cover this issue.

i think for things like this , its best to have infiniti figure out the possible issues and you can decide from there. anything on the CANBUS system can be a long rabbit hole to go down to find potential issues.

once you have the info, come back here or search online for other discussions.

not throwing a code just makes it hard to diagnose.

I dropped it off at the dealership to check on the cruise control, TPMS issue and also 4WD light that is coming on again after my initial fix to the relay. I'm hoping they can find the problem and the extended warranty will cover all of it.

I'll keep you posted.

Thanks.

Dealership called now and said cruise control issue is some kind of spiral cable malfunction in the steering column, 4WD light turning on, they think a switch in the transfer case is malfunctioning and without opening the transfer case they cannot tell for sure. Also, found an oil cooler leak (minor) but will get it fixed if warranty covers it. The adviser said something about the TPMS which I do not remember now....LOL! Anyways, the extended warranty company is sending out an inspector to the dealership tomorrow to review all the issues and will let us know.

Update - everything is getting fixed except for the TPMS, warranty won't cover it. The dealership said front passenger tire sensor is bad so I will get it fixed at the tire store once I get it back.

About 2K worth of work so extended warranty is paying off now, finally get to use it....LOL!

Also, transfer case has to be disassembled pretty good to access the faulty 4WD switch.
