2010 Pathfinder stuck in 4LO. Need tips on popping it out.

Good morning everyone.

I bought a 2010 Pathfinder Saturday. Everything working just as it should until last night when i switched the car to 4LO.

I was parked up in neutral with the engine on. Switched it from 2WD to AUTO then 4HI and after a few seconds to 4LO. I heard a loud clunk and the dash comes up with 4LO, ESP off and 4WD as it should. Car is definitely in 4LO as it moves very slow.

I moved forward maybe 2ft and backward 2ft before stopping, putting it back in to neutral and pressing the switch and turning to 4HI. This is when nothing happened. The dash still shows as the cars in 4LO with 4WD and ESP on the dash as before. I tried turning the dial to AUTO and then 2WD yet the dash stays the same.

I did some Googling and tried to rocking the car back and forth trick to no avail.
I did notice when i turn the ignition on and put it in gear i hear an electric humming noise from the transfer case and when i put it in neutral it stops after a few seconds.

Checked the plugs are all connected and secure. One was loose but i've since pushed it in fully.

Still nothing. The car is stuck in 4LO and the only thing that changes is if i switch it back and forth from 4LO to 4HI a few times the 4WD on the dash turns off but won't change the little car icon showing all 4 wheels are engaged.

Is there any tricks or tips that i can do to convince the car to drop out of 4LO?
Only thing left to try that i can find on Google is to jack the front wheels up and give them a spin by hand while the switch is set to 2WD to try and disengage the transfer box.

Car looks to have been owned by an older gentleman so most likely never used 4LO in it's lifetime. I bought the car from a garage and he wrote on the receipt "Trade sale" as he said he was going to service the car, but as a negotiation i knocked the price down to service it myself (Fluids and filters etc...) Not 100% sure what my rights are here about possibly getting it returned/fixed as the garage is over 2 hours away and i won't be able to drive it in 4LO that far.

Any hints, tips or fixes would be much appreciated. Even if it's just getting it out of 4LO and never putting it back in ever again.

EDIT: Just started the car and turned the switch from 4LO to 4HI and the 4WD icon turned off but stayed showing as 4LO. I turned it back to 4LO and put the car in 1st, dropped the clutch a little to lurch the car forward before rolling back slightly. I put it in neutral and held the car with the foot brake. Turned the dial to 4HI and the 2LO indicator on the dash turned off. I then moved it to AUTO and saw the centre box icon turn off. Turned it to 2WD and it shows as 2WD on the dash now. Drove it around the block and it's fully out of 4WD... So my guess is the transfer case is a bit unused and a bit old. Looks as if the service manual shows it having new fluid in 2021 so time for me to get on a do that service.
