Hello Everyone!
I'm Jenn (a newbie) and I have a question..

I had to change my serpentine belt about a month ago-- I had my brother do it because I didn't really trust the mechanic.. Well my brother and his father in law (a former mechanic) changed the belt out and then the car would squeal.. usually the case with a new belt.
BUT.. it's actually squealing when the AC is on and only when either just starting the car or driving slow. I drove to Miami that weekend and no squealing whatsoever until we pulled into the parking garage - then it sounded like my car was joining the opera!! what could it be? I'm sure I will have to get it professionally fixed but I want to reduce the costs as much as possible

Thanks in advance! :ohno: :ohno:

Do you know what serpentine belt they used? Was it the OEM one?

Ace?!? Go to the dealership and pick the OEM belt for $40. http://www.everythingnissan.com/2010-Ni ... 832011.htm

Some after market belts are longer or shorter by a couple mm. Check this thread, post6577129.html

Hi my name is Jen too. I also own a 2010 Rogue. I had my serpentine belt replaced and then later that night my car started squealing. Brought it back today to the garage and they are trying to tell me my AC compressor is gone. I don't believe them and told them it was fine and had used the ac minimally before with out any issues. They claimed its not the belt and put a new another new one but not an OEM one. I am curious if the belt made a difference. I am going to take it to the dealer and try that cause I truly believe it is not the compressor as they claim. I am so irritated by this. I also told them that an after market belt could be the issue but the kid who said he was Nissan certified claims the belt should be fine. Was hoping for some help on this one and if you had any luck

Do you have any paperwork from the mechanic that says the brand or part number of the belt. If you have that it shouldn't be hard for folks here to look it up and see if it's the right size. If you read the thread that Daryl linked to, there are definitely some belts that are too tight, but more recently someone was able to fit a Goodyear belt.

One thing that I found out while doing my belt was, there is more than one way to put it on! I didn't think so, and to be clear, I wasn't the one who did it. I had some friends 'helping' and we may or may not have had a few wobbly pops in the process... :)

Anyways, the point is to make sure the belt is installed and routed correctly. Mine squealed like a stuck pig when I first fired it up. Once we put it on properly, it was no longer a problem at all.

I used a Gates belt from RockAuto that cost about $15 US.

GATES K060711 Belt CAD$ 20.09 1 CAD$ 20.09

so you're car is using a belt really designed for a lawn-mower.... and you're wondering why it doesnt have the torque to sustain all the components a car has???

what kind of a mechanic is this family member?? lolol

go get a dealership belt and be done with it
