Spies recently caught the 2010 Nissan 370Z on its way to the Nurburgring for some high-speed testing. The car is starting to be called the ‘baby GT-R’ and you’re probably wondering if it will live up to such an honorary nickname.

Well, let’s take a look. The Nissan 370Z will be a mashup between the GT-R and the 350Z. Power will come from a 3.7L V6 that produces 330-hp - the same engine powers the Infiniti G37. All that power will be transferred to the road via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission from the GT-R. CAR says that the new upmarket coupe will ride on a rear-wheel-drive architecture. Sounds pretty good to us, but let’s wait to see some Nurburgring and 0 to 62 mph times.

We’ll get to see the new 2010 Nissan 370Z at the 2008 LA Auto Show next month. So stay tuned for more on this so-called ‘baby GT-R.’

...I think I saw these pics or ones like them a while ago...

The headlights and quarter window appear stupider.

It'll be nice if it's actually smaller than a 350 as everyone says it will be though. But I was always a fan of the 350s design, and am disappointed that Nissan just wants to put out something that looks like a 350, with a bad body kit :P

...They should release a lower displacement, turbo model and revolutionarily call it the 280Z

From the sketches that i've seen it looks like the lines are going to be more rigid - i wasn't a fan. I love the look of the current Z and the way it flows right now...

I'm a little confused about the "CAR says that the new upmarket coupe will ride on a rear-wheel-drive architecture" line, was someone over at CAR under the impressions that it might be some other drivetrain setup?

I wouldn't be too judgemental about the external appearance (yet) - this thing can change a few times before it hits showrooms. But those are some seriously small quarter windows, they should be called eighth or sixteenth windows instead.

But isn't this all old news? I thought Stillen already had a 370Z.

If this holds true... means no clutch or stick for this too.

Once again, Nissan pwns the speculators and theorists.

Remember when they slapped G35 bodywork on a test mule? And everyone (Edmunds, other Nissan forums, etc) was freaking out, thinking it was the newest iteration of the G?

And yet, we here at NICOclub TOLD you guys it was JUST bodywork?

Yep - It was the GTR test mule, and we got pix of it right here in Phoenix.

So, there's no reason to think the car pictured above is a 370Z, because we've SEEN what that car's gonna look like.

I'm betting whatever that is, it's a slot BENEATH the Z... Nissan's low-priced sport-compact entry perhaps?

C'mon guys - Think outside the box.

hmm, I thought I'd seen most of the renderings from that supposed Nissan presentation, a few "spy shots" which all looked about like that...

So what WILL the new Z definitely look like then

As much as I'd like a new Silvia to exist, and as much as I sorta dislike the 370's direction should that be it, I couldn't complain too much if the above was indeed the new Z, mostly because I'd then be afraid they could screw it up even more

I would have to imagine someone has already posted this but I'll do it here anyways. . .

I'm waiting for the 370Z to come out already so I can get a 350Z on the cheap.

That's going to depend on the level of suck of the 370 (if there is any) and the nostalgia for the styling of the 350 (once again, if there is any).

The only time I personally think that Nissan made the follow up model less attractive than the initial model, ironically enough with the Z, was following up the 240Z with the 260Z. But that was a case of lowered performance (damned US emissions) not a case of poor styling.

The Hitman is right about it potentially being the new Silvia, but I don't think it is. Certainly not with performance numbers being thrown about - that would certainly cut into sales of the 350/370/Altima coupe platforms - depending on the price point. But the timing certainly is right, most reports put the arrival of Silvia replacement at 2010. But it is great to see Nissan rolling out new models, not sitting on their laurels with past successes and watching as other car makers, Japanese and American alike struggle to make a decent rwd platform.

Its going to take awhile for that to happened. Especially considering how many 350z are out there...

Anything that you buy that goes up in value would technically qualify as an investment, not just a car. Great or not would depend on your rate of return at the time of sale.
R350Zz33 wrote: i will never sell my z
Oops. To realize a return on any potential investment you need to be willing to part with the asset. It might not be such a good investment after all. I never considered mine an investment though, like you I don't plan on selling it. But who knows what the value will be, after all there are fewer than 300 E33 coloured A35's - it could get pretty tempting.

Stock/bonds = Investments

Cars = Assets

Assets depreciate, fact of life. Unless you have a real collector's car, the value of your car is going to go down. Sorry, but the Z (while beautiful and awesome) is still a line production car - there are thousands of them on the road. Z was never a limited production run, your value is not going to go up...

^ Exactly.

Here's what will go up in "modern-Z territory":

A zero-mile Z33 6MT from the first production year.The first Z33 Roadster.The last Z33 6MT (again, needs to be a zero-mile car).The last Z33 Roadster.Any Z33 that someone famous dies in.

Unless you own one of those, you own a future chunk of scrap.

Drive it hard, because it's disposable.

No, it will be worth the same amount as any other depreciated 2008 Z.

The new 7speed transmission should really help the 0-60 times. The new FX50 totally blows the FX45 out of the water, obviously the larger engine helps, but the 7spd makes a significant difference!
