Just experienced the moveable sunroof exploding (upward) on my 2010 Murano. It only has 21,900 miles on it and I had parked in the shade that morning. Outside temperature here in SW Florida was 86 that morning.
My local dealer said they had never experienced this before and to call my insurance company. The sunroof replacement firm that handles the insurance claims said that they had several of these happen before this one and that only the dealer should replace the glass. The dealer wanted to replace the entire glass roof including the rails, etc. (nearly $5,000 worth), saying that was they only way they could order it. The insurance folks taught them how to read the parts manual and to order only the broken sunroof glass (over the front seats).
Has anyone else had this problem? If so how was the sunroof repaired, as the entire unit or just the glass? Any leakage problems or operational issues?

Seems like this should be considered a Warranty issue, although I know the warranty says they do not cover: ■ Glass breakage, unless resulting from defects in material or workmanship.
I'm thinking this could have been a defective piece of glass.

Thoughts? or Comments? :werd:

I remember reading about this from one member over at NissanMurano.org - not sure on the outcome though. You might want to search over there as well.

Thanks - you were right, I went to the Nissan Murano.org site and found nine other Murano's with this problem. Armed with their comments, yesterday I called the Nissan Customer Affairs office at 800-647-7261 and after a "grilling" from the not so friendly person there was able to generate a case # where I asked for Nissan to cover the repairs to the sunroof and shade (now estimated at $1,500) and to furnish me a loaner car while mine was in for the repairs. She said that before the end of the next day the Regional Specialist would be calling me.
Sure enough today I received a call and the Regional Specialist agreed to cover the repairs under the 36 month warranty and furnish me a loaner while mine is being repaired. They are replacing the broken sunroof and the rolling shade for it - should be ready tomorrow, thirteen days after it exploded.
