Quick question...

has anyone ever updated there nav map disc from a previous year?

If so.. besides the updated road info does the face of program look different on the nav screen? Does it look like you went from regular Nintendo Graphics to Xbox 360 HD graphics?lol i guess what im looking for is if the navigation program look changes & looks better (enhanced) and . hopefully i clarified my question enough...

its $99... and i wonder if i can install it myself or does the dealer do it? because i rather not pay labor charges

Be careful when offering up this solution. I'm not sure how the stock A/C navigation is, but I've looked into similar for my dad's Honda. Every so often with the Hondas, the firmware is upgraded along with the maps. Some Honda owners tried to pirate the maps and it flashed the firmware and made up unable to recognize the updated maps (didn't have the required digital signature). Since they couldn't revert to older firmware, they were stuck purchasing the new maps or without nav.

I'm running the latest disc available... I'm on my third upgraded disc thus far in my A/C.

If you have the DVD Nav, it's just a matter of holding the tilt button down long enough, and the display will motor down to reveal the navigation drive's disc slot.

As for changing the interface? Not gonna happen. The discs are nothing more than map data matched to a specific firmware/hardware combo found in our Altimas (and whatever other cars are listed as compatible for that specific disc) to prevent swapping/copying between cars, not that it really reduces piracy in this day and age anyways... :gotme

IMO, purchasing upgraded maps is a waste of money unless you do a lot of traveling in an area that is up and coming with new roads and highways being built. ie. a Realtor in Las Vegas. I drive the same roads, all the time and I notice the changes. If I need to go anywhere else, than the maps on my 08 nav is sufficient. Let's face it,.it's not like the roads will dissappear.. :chuckle:
