Hi. I was at a dealer and they told me that they got rid of the special coating that if the clear coat is scratched it will go away with time in the sunlight. Anyone have info on this?

Honestly, I never really believed it would work properly as they described it. Scratches aren't the problem with Nissan/Infiniti paint. It's the softness of the paint. It isn't a really hard paint, so it chips. Scratches that the clear would "self heal" can be buffed out with some 3M Perfect It Rubbing compound and a towel with a lot of elbow grease. You can also buy a rotary wheel (Harbor Freight Tools $30) and a set of good buffing pads ($50+) and do it yourself.

Here is an article that I wrote about wetsanding and buffing.

I know how to remove scratches. You can even fill in some if you put enough Zaino on. I was just wondering if the self healing is gone for the 2010 models. The dealer said the 2009 models still have it on.. I've seen a video or 2 of this working, and it seemed pretty cool.
