I read the maintenence guide and was as confused as you - but it looks like they got you taken care of in the G35/37 forum.

I work for Infiniti and I am confused too, so y'all are not alone.

The system is mostly sealed and the car has long life fluid, which replaced the older matic J used in the RE5 (5 speed auto used since 03). Since 03 they have had locked dipsticks or none at all (02-03 Q) now they have a plug under the car from which you watch the fluid drip out.

I just checked and the service manual says it is maintenance free, so if it were my car I would not be too stressed over it. You should be fine, but being educated about potential upsells down the road might be wise. Not all people tend to know the details of things like that.

A maintenance free unit is actually a really good concept. The Jatco transmissions are great and have exceptional relaibility and the new 7 speed has more sensors and actuators than ever (which might scare some but it is a good thing). This care actually has the ability to know what is wrong with itself before you do.
