My thoughts on the Insight

- Cargo space in back is big- Looks very futuristic - Great way on saving gas- Looks kind of tacky- Don't care for the interface layout of the speedometer and tachometer, looks confusing

I glanced at the pictures and thought to myself that the car looks like a copied version of the Prius on the outside but with features from the Civic and Fit changed around.

Nissan has their version of the Altima Hybrid, but that's not it's own vehicle because it's based on the Altima itself. Do you think Nissan will come out with its own Hybrid anytime soon?

What are your opinions about the new Honda Insight they're coming out?

The only Hondaq I want is the H2 powered FCX Clarity. They need to get more H2 stations outside of Cali and release it outside of Cali.

That's the tech we need until we find a viable plug in electric vehicle that won't leave you stranded.

I don't see why the Insight is more attractive than comparable hybrids...

It is slower from 0-60 than the 2nd generation Prius. It has less interior room than the Prius, poorer fuel efficiency.

What does it have going for it? Aside from it being 2 grand cheaper? If I were interested in hybrids - I'll wait until the 2010 Prius goes on market.

Nissan is simply too far behind in hybrid tech to develop a dedicated hybrid on its own. The Altima's technology is actually licensed from Toyota.

The Prius and the Insight are completely different in how they use their electric motors. The Prius has a seperate Electric and gasoline motor. The Insight has an Integrated Motor Assist(IMA).

Plus they're appealing to 2 different markets. The Prius is the more well off, status concious family car. The one who likes to say, "I care about the environment when I drive to my golf game after I put in 6 hard hours behind my desk.

The Insight is more of the "hybrid for the masses" in a way. It's lower price should allow for more people to own a hybrid that gets decent returns on gas mileage.

While hybrids are all good and great, we still need something that gets us away from fossil fuels, yet still allows the freedom to go long distances without having to plug your car in to charge for 6 hours. Wether it comes from some sort of super electric car or a H2 fuel cell vehicle is up to the companies and the consumer.

I think its a great car if they can keep it in the 18.5 - 19 range for the entry car.

It is .1 faster than the Prius going to 60.

Not sure why the consumer cares how the hybrid system works differently - they care about mpg and performance.

I got the 0-60 figures from Edmunds. Prius 09 - 10.4 seconds, Insight 10.9 seconds. Let's face it - the Prius and Insight are not performance machines, but neither are econ-boxes. The Insight also has poorer mpg than Honda's own Civic Hybrid.

People who buy the Insight will be really no different than Prius consumers that go for the image.

"I'm a green - but I'm more special because I didn't go Toyota."

*whatever*

Any heat in these things? Has anybody been reading the hybrid forums to see how things measure up in cold weather?

I'm just saying, it'll be more affordable to the average consumer. The usual market for Priuses(Prii? Would that be the multiple of Prius?) are snooty people. Kinda like how most people who buy new BMW's are yuppie, self absorbed douchebags.
