We noticed on our new 2010 G37xS Sedan that the steering wheel vibrates/shakes from time to time. I had it in for the dealer to look at, and they said everything was fine. While that was in for service I had a loaner, same car EXCEPT it did not have the Sport Pkg. The loaner car steering wheel did not shake at all. The service dept said that the Sport has a bit of a harsher ride, and this was the cause. What is strange is sometimes the steering wheel hardly shakes, and other times it has a much more prominent shake.

ANY IDEAS FOLKS? Or is this the way it is supposed to be?

Mine does not vibrate. You may have an out-of-balance wheel. Does it vibrate at a specific speed? If you release the steering wheel does it pull or drift?

If you can feel vibrations in the steering wheel, then the issue is in front suspension or front tires. Have them re-balance the tires regardless if they can feel the vibration or not.

Did they check the balance?

If it is within the 12/12 adjustments warranty they should cover it no charge.

If it is under braking then the rotors might have some parallelism from sitting or uneven cooling.

They say there is nothing wrong, that it is normal for the Sport model. Happens usually around 65-75mph, some highways are not as bad and it doesn't shake at all, other times it is pretty bad. It does not happen during breaking.

A balance check wouldn't hurt that is right in the speed range where we usually see a little imbalance causing some issues at highway speeds.

They did check the balance, they said that was find, but they did not check the alignment, they said if it was the alignment it would shake all the time at highway speeds.

I am no expert, but I would say it is a balance issue. I have found that balance in one tire can cause the steering wheel to vibrate and make the car feel like there is a major issue. Be careful who you have check your balance too. Places like Walmart seem to care less about getting the balance precise which provides the smoothest ride. Last time I took it to a Firestone place and paid more than Wal-mart but the ride was perfect when the car was done..

The Infiniti dealer checked the balance.

Have the dealership do a rid-along with you....
