I thought this might be helpful to some that do not have a transmission dip stick. I went on eBay and bought a 2008 G37 transmission dip stick and after an hour of wrestling I installed one on my G. I hated not being able to check the level and color of the tranny fluid. It was tight and I scraped up my hands but love the ability to add oil from the topside.

How accurate is this? Is the 08 the same transmission, or is it the 5 speed? I have a 13 with the 7 speed, and would love to have a dipstick.

No need for a dip stick
The transmission is sealed

Yeah, not exactly true. You can take it and have it serviced/oil changed at dealer. I am a home mechanic, would rather do myself if possible, but have not been able to find a good way to check the fluid if I wanted to. My car is approaching the 100k mark, the transmission is a service I would like to do.

There is a cap with an O ring in the hole where the dipstick should have been installed IMHO and was done to encourage you to take the car to the dealer for service. If you look down from the top you can see a 10 mm bolt holding the cap in the hole where the dipstick goes. I am surprised that no one has already figured this out. I have already checked the fluid level several times with the car running and comes up right. Go on ebay and search for a 2008 G37 trans dipstick. I did it and damned glad I did. I have a 2010 G37 RWD and had to use two long extensions from the top to screw the 10mm bolt into the transmission case after I guided the tube down from the top and placed it into the hole underneath to get it started then used the extensions to screw it in. I'm an old man with big hands and took about an hour. Pull up some pics on the used transmissions for sale on ebay and you will see the hole with cap in it.

There is a small metal bracket on the transmission casing you will have to remove in order to install the dipstick that is zip tied to the wiring harness where the middle mount for the transmission dipstick screws to (10mm). This gave me the most amount of trouble but I managed it with a long extension and a knuckle. Also the bottom screw where the tube plugs into the casing was really tight, I used a lot of wd 40 to prevent breaking off the bolt. One of the youtubers should do a video on this to help out the G guys, just sayin....
